Acoustic blues suggestions please!

I’ve always been a huge fan of Peter Case. He’s not strictly blues, but he’s a good guitarist (does a good bit of fingerpicking). He produced and performed on a Various Artists tribute to Mississippi John Hurt, featuring Chris Smithers (another reccomendation!) and others.

Wow - I normally think of him as an electric, Chicago-style bluesman. I play one of his instrumentals - jeez, it’s been so long I can’t even remember the name - but he is a great player…

Good stuff mentioned in this thread.

Indeed. Thanks to this I should have nearly a two disc set of stuff now to feed this particular jones. Thanks everyone.

Another Lightnin’ fan here. He was playing the Houston clubs in my youth, so I remember him well. And Mance Lipscomb came down from Navasota to represent some older traditions. You can hear samples of both at the excellent Arhoolie Records site. While you’re there, check out Clifton Chenier, who also lived in Houston for many years. No, he didn’t play “acoustic blues.” But he was the King of Zydeco! (In fact, most of the Arhoolie catalog is worth a listen.)

Check out Flower Films for more from Mr Hopkins & Mr Lipscomb. (I am not on the payroll of Flower Films. Or Arhoolie Records.)

Glad to hear about Mr Mahal’s latest project. And his music has always been excellent–traditional blues & beyond.
