Don’t forget one of the great things about reloading. Custom bullet types (e.g. pointy bullets in a .30-30 for a bolt action, magazine fed rifle, rather than the lever action) or reduced recoil bullets - lighter powder load- for practice, or ‘smaller’ shooters.
My FIL has all the gear, but due to the cheap cost of .30-30, and the Hornaday Leverevolution ammo, I’ve not made the time to go up and reload a large number of cartridges. I’m sure I will someday though… (post 1-20-09)
I think it used to be more cost-effective, but lead prices have gone up so much that the lead shot is as expensive as anything else in the load, which wasn’t the case all that long ago.
