Ha! My Uncle temporarily took over my late father’s living space and mentioned wanting to take down the framed photo of me as a kid with sunglasses on and pants down to my feet before we let the realtor in.
Sure it’s useful. It’s useful precisely because it’s a historical comparison, and it shows how American culture has changed in the intervening years. I personally think that, on this particular topic, it has changed for the worse, and that over-reaction and stupidity have become the order of the day.
Unfortunately, the attitude has been around for a while now, and we’ve discussed similar cases on this board before.
Sometimes sending the children to work in the coal mines just isn’t enough . . .
Insanity! When I was a kid, we had a cabin at a nudist camp, so I guess all the home movies of everyone running around buck naked is “child porn” by the current hysterical standard.
I think you’ll find that 1984 comes rather after 1978…
But I don’t recall the word ever being used in the original, Mormonized series.
The “child porn” angle was obviously just an excuse to keep the very effective photo out of the testimony.
My parents have a photo of my female cousin and me bathing nude together in a wash tub. I’d guess we were about 18 months old. I rather doubt anyone who has seen it over the last 60+ years has ever had a sexual thought related to it. Of course, my family doesn’t run to sexual perversions. Other families may vary.
Whoah. I never realized they used it in the original series. BG, see here.
There are postcards you can buy in Thailand showing hilltribe scenes from up North. These are very poor but colorful people, and very often there are little naked children running around the village in the scene. It’s all pretty innocent, but I’ve stopped my wife from sending them to friends in the US out of fear we’d get hit with some sort of child-porn charge. She hadn’t even thought of that angle.
Between you, me, gaffa and jackdavinci, I think we can star our own calendar!
It says a lot about my work that when I read “An award-winning coal-mining activist” I honestly have to read more to see if they’re pro or con…
That’s easily the worst band name I’ve ever seen.
So…am I to assume that there are pedophiles out there getting their jollies with the Vietnam napalm girl photo?
Their obviously concerned about the Delinquency of Miners.
If it exists, someone somewhere is getting off on it.
Rule 33?
Almost certainly, yes. There are a whole ton of folks out there making and selling “naturist” video’s that are clearly meant to appeal to the kiddy porn market. It’s disturbing, to say the least.
Sadly, imo. There is nothing sexualized about a naked 12 year old playing tennis, or singing around a campfire, but our society is so hung up on the idea that naked=sexual that ANYTHING like that gets folks all het up.
My mother had to dispose of some pics she had of my little brother, about 4 years old, peeing into a lake. A memento of an amazing camping trip and a funny story to tell are now gone. ![]()
