_The Postman_ is one of my favorite movies. Costner’s performance is insanely cheesy; there are _two_ outdoor jam sessions, one of which includes a cringe-inducing rendition of _Come Get Your Love_ (even including the “comeandgetyourlove comeadgetyourlove comeandgetyourlovenow” part); and just like in Waterworld, a female character asks Costner specifically for his semen. I think he gets off on writing that into his scripts. Given his [incident](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kevin_Costner#Controversy) at the St. Andrews golf course, I wouldn’t be surprised. Nevertheless, I think _The Postman_ is saved by Will Patton’s awesome performance as General Bethlehem, and the amazing outdoor scenery. ---

I think the only two I absolutely hate are Adam Sandler and Tom Green. I avoid watching anything involving Cruise or Gibson now (harder for Gibson: I still love The Road Warrior), but I don’t hate them. ---

I’ll admit it is not proven that Maddox was adopted under false premises, but Jolie did use the services of a since convicted baby launderer, to get what she wanted. What made things particularly surreal was that the allegations about Galindo’s unethical practices were surfacing at the same time that Jolie was expressing her complete trust in that same woman. While at the same time condemning the general state of international adoption in Cambodia. This [link](http://law.bepress.com/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=3679&context=expresso) offers a quick summary of the situation with Cambodian adoptions. (Warning: pdf, from Wayne Law Review) The Wayne Law Review article makes the point that not only was there was systemic problem with Cambodian international adoptions to the US, but Galindo had her fingers in most of the pies. Even those adoptions that her agency didn’t actively facilitate were often using her services. So, Jolie was saying, on one hand: There’s a huge problem in Cambodia with international adoption. And then on the other hand, but there’s no problem with _my_ baby because I’m using a legitimate service. :rolleyes: I really think she was talking out both sides of her mouth. And that cheeses me something fierce. ---

Enough with the young whippersnappers. **John Wayne** - Anybody my age is going to have an opinion of John Wayne. Mine is negative across the board. **Burt Lancaster** - His acting is so overdone he reminds me of Jon Lovitz’s “Master Thespian” **Walter Brennan** - Supposedly he had range, but in everything I ever saw him in he was annoying as hell. **Joan Crawford** - She’s just so damned ugly (except for her very early work). Worked for her in “Baby Jane,” but other than that, yuck. **Burt Reynolds** - In dramas he’s bombastic, in comedies he’s painfully unfunny. ---

I do not like Colin Farrell. He has a swaggering, smirky, macho manner that annoys me. Brad Pitt, same problem. Both these guys are good actors, but their typical facial expressions and body language are turnoffs for me, and I’d rather watch someone else. ---

There are plenty of actors whose performances and preferred character-type I don’t really care for, but that I get the impression are decent people or at least skate under my radar. There’s one actor who seems to pop up the red-flags on all counts: Matthew McConaughey. He seems to be just like his characters - a slightly stupid slacker who is way too cocky for his own good. I get the impression that in person, I’d probably want to punch him in the face. ---

Ditto Jane Fonda, and I’ll add Julia Roberts to the list. More or less everything she’s ever said or done or had written about her paints her as a truly repulsive human being, and I’m glad her movies are so awful, because it amounts to an unconscious boycott. I’ve said this before, but there’s something very, _very_ wrong about Woody Harrelson. If SWAT were to raid his house tomorrow and find human heads in his fridge, I would not be a bit surprised. ---

An oldy that I don’t like is Lionel Barrymore (come to think of it, I don’t like Drew Barrymore, either). He’s the same character in different costume in every movie. ---

I’m watching **Volcano** as I type this, and I really hate the hell out of Anne Heche. The emotional range of Gynneth Paltrow combined with the sultry soothing voice of Lorraine Bracco. _What_ were Steve Martin and Ellen Degeneris thinking? ---

David Caruso has the acting skills of William Shatner without any of the charm and humor. He has been terrible in everything he did after a small role in Rambo. He overacts, and is the definition of smarmy. So I guess I am seconding **River Hippie**. For me second prize goes to Tom Cruise. ---

I liked her in \*Cat Ballou \* and I loved her as the sexy Barbarella. A goofy silly movie, but she was so hot. She was very good in _They Shoot Horses, Don’t They?_ (1969), a fairly obscure but excellent movie. I nearly forgot, she was funny in _Nine to Five_. She did a good job acting against type in that movie. As an actress, I thought she was at her best in _Barefoot in the Park_. I understand the hate over her politics, but I don’t let it take away from my respect for her actual acting ability. In that regard, my dislike for Tom Cruise is strictly based on him being a terrible actor, not because I also think he is bat shit crazy. ---

As for Hargitay, she just GRATES. She makes that funny scrunchy-face thing that drives me batty. She has a single facial expression, or so it seems like. (In related news, Diane Neal is bailing.) ---

OK, I’m not saying I’ve always hated any of these actors or actresses, nor that everything they’ve ever done is junk, nor that I’m always going to hate them in the future, but I really hate seeing them in a flick _right now_, in no particular order: Jack Nicholson Julia Roberts Richard Gere (guess I didn’t like _Pretty Woman_ much then, did I?) Heather Graham Sylvester Stallone Annette Bening Mickey Rourke Tom Arnold Adam Sandler Eddie Murphy Just about every other SNL alumnus except maybe Bill Murray And I’ll jump on the bandwagon to give the Cruiser a good kicking. For actors/actresses retired or deceased, of whom I’d say most of their work I don’t care for at all: John Wayne Gregory Peck James Dean Marlon Brando (yes, really) Karl Malden Joan Crawford Frank Sinatra Shirley McLaine ---

One actress I avoid is Jessica Lange. From everything I’ve read, she’s a good person, and she’s a very competent actress, but there’s something about her that at best bores me, and at worst, depresses the hell out of me.
