Points are only scored for matches. A unique pick has no matches so it score no points.
To give an example, twenty-two people picked Lawrence of Arabia. That meant each of their picks had twenty-one matching picks. So the twenty-two people who picked Lawrence of Arabia each scored twenty-one points.
As for movies that turned out to be unique picks, I was surprised nobody but me picked Arsenic and Old Lace or Unforgiven. I thought those would be popular choices with other people. (If I had been picking my personal favorites for those actors, I would have gone with Father Goose and The Conversation. Which also would not have scored me any points.)
Well, I am surprised I pulled that one off, after I’d submitted my guesses I checked everyone’s and could’ve sworn more people were picking others than my choices for certain actors (I was sure Butch and Sundance was going to beat The Sting, it was a toss up for me which one I went for). I must be the most average person on here haha.
Too easy. I had to at least provide a possibility for someone else to make a match, or it wouldn’t have been any fun.
I came really close to picking that one. Would have messed up my “perfect score”.
I was considering trying a film by the British director Steve McQueen (hah!), but I couldn’t think of one he so much as had a cameo in (unlike his compatriot Alfred Hitchcock).
My original pick for Grant was My Favorite Wife, but then I thought it wouldn’t get a match, so I changed it to The Philadelphia Story. Everyone loves The Philadelphia Story! Then I decided Hitchcock would get more votes, so I went with Notorious. My instinct was correct-- was just wrong in thinking more people would go for co-star Ingrid Bergman over Eva Marie Saint.
I scored 1 by choosing The Apartment for Jack Lemmon-- originally, I had Mass Appeal. Sheesh.
What was the highest score possible for any one actor?
We had twenty-six people play so the highest possible points would have been twenty-five. It didn’t happen this time but in the previous feud, everyone picked The Silence of the Lambs for Anthony Hopkins.
In this particular feud, the highest possible score (picking all ten top answers) was 157, which iamatractorboy achieved.
Interesting that Henry Fonda, Jack Lemmon and Paul Newman had the most diverse spread of votes, suggesting they’re more recognized for overall acting talent instead of “just their name.”
I’d appreciate a heads up if you run another one, @Little_Nemo . I wouldn’t have run a Feud so close to yours if I had known you were running one. I’d like to play in yours!
