Actual Yodelling in Pop Songs

Did somebody say 80’s style yodeling?

There’s a little bit of yodeling in this rap song beat called “Cuttin’” by Mike Jones. I’ve posted a few links of it below:

Strangely, the yodeling doesn’t sound too out-of-place.

Nice-n-timely: Today riding down from the Virginny mountains, I was listening to Countrypolitan,by Southern Culture on the Skids, and the song “Wolverton Mountain”, a redo of Claude King’s 1962 #6 on the pop charts, features a nice “Ay-eee-oooo” yodel chorus. That album is pretty new( you can listen at scots.com), but the song has been covered before, by Hank Jr, and The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band— but it had me yodelling and wondering about yodels, too.

Don’t know if you saw these two links, KSRO:

Will There Be Yodelling In Heaven?, an older article with songlist, well worth reading.

Yodel Course, with ten levels of learning, several file versions available. I’ve bookmarked it. Hope it helps ya.

This morning I climbed straight up on one of the Blue Ridge peaks… Yodeee-ohhhh-huiii-deee !!!

One of my favorite songs, “Change His Ways” (1988 or 1989) by Robert Palmer, features a couple of stretches where Palmer breaks out into honest-to-God yodeling.

The song is on the album Heavy Nova, the same record that contains the mega-hit “Simply Irresistible.”

I was gonna post a separate thread asking someone to teach me to yodel, but apparently there is no need  Too cool. I am nowhere near level 10, but someday… someday [insert angry shaking fist for no real reason here].

Seriously, that site is fantastic.

I should add that yodeling was a bit of a trademark for Jimmie Rodgers (that, and making a train whistle sound with his voice). Most of his songs feature yodeling.
