… is apparently still [alive](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Stephen_Morrison) at the age of almost 90. I understand his wife has died however. This is amazing to me in the sense that it defies my normal brain chronology, Jim had a brother Andy, and a sister Anne. Does anyone know what became of them? ---

I was a young enlisted man stationed on the BonHomme Richard when Admiral Morrison was aboard. We always heard he was Jim Morrison’s dad, but the rumor was that each denied the relationship. It’s nice to know we were right. ---

I believe the siblings are still alive. I can’t find the liink (thought I had it saved), but they spoke “on the record” for pretty much the first time ever not too long ago (was it because of the publication of yet another book on Jim…or a documentary - argh! I hate getting old!) Anyway, the gist of what I remember was that they loved him very much, but (a) there was a generational/cultural thing goin’ on between Jim & Dad, and (b) when all was said and done, they didn’t want to add fuel to the fire of public speculation. I remember being shocked that his Dad was still alive. VCNJ~ ---

I remember in the Jim Morrision biography _No One Gets Out of Here Alive_, (co-authored by Jerry Hopkins, who lives in Thailand with his Thai wife), pointed out that first sentence in the Wikipedia article, that George Morrison had been the youngest admiral in the history of the US Navy before 1963. Father and son hated each other by all accounts. And the book reported Jim’s brother as saying he played The Doors at home one time, and his father pretended not to hear it. Kept reading his newspaper. But during “The End,” his fingers gripping the newspaper became considerably whiter and shakier as the song progressed through certain of the lyrics. 😃 ---

The only photos I have of them is older family pictures of when they were young children. I think this is a matter of choice with the family as they seem to want to remain anonymous. I had a high school English teacher who had been the admiral’s secretary when she was first out of college and she recalled meeting Jim once and thinking he was just gross. ---

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum has a copy of Jim Morrison’s will. In it he leaves everything to his siblings, equally divided IIRC. I imagine they do not want for cash. Another part of the same exhibit had a letter to a judge from the Admiral asking for leniency for his son over some alcohol-related infraction (the nudity charge, maybe?) and taking some responsibility for how Jim turned out. They were cool to each other, it seems, once Jim realized he didn’t want to be as disciplined and military as his father and around the same time discovered drinking. Age 13 or thereabouts, I think. The saddest thing in the exhibit is Jim’s scout uniform, which he wanted to learn to iron so he could look good enough for his father. He was like every other little boy then, just wanting his father’s love and pride and it brought tears to my eyes right there. ---

There were several enlisted folks who would have had an opportunity to see the admiral daily, but I wasn’t one of them. At that time in the armed forces, especially in the Navy, there was a much more delineated break between officer and enlisted, so even meeting him casually during the day, it still would not have been acceptable to ask him questions about his family. ---
