Traveling normally happens about 10-14 weeks after the match, so weāre figuring around the beginning of October. Thereās a lot more paperwork to file right now, after which we get our appointment with the US Consulate in Guangzhou for our final adoption/becoming a citizen ceremony and stuff. They sort of build your travel itinerary around that appointment.

I have a houseful of terrific kids (6 to be exact) and some of mine were adopted. Adoption is a beautiful way to grow a family.

Update:
We have been there and back again, and we have our new kiddo. Iāll just give yāall the highlights to keep it brief and fill in the blanks later.
We left for China on October 2nd and arrived in Beijing on 10/4. If I ever fly internationally again, Iām going with an American airline; the only decent thing on the Chinese airline was the food, everything else about the flight sucked. But, we made it, and we toured around for a couple of days, making it to the Temple of Heaven, the Great Wall, and the Forbidden City. Then, we departed for Jiangxi Province, city of Nanchang, where we would meet our daughter.
Gotcha Day was October 8th, and she was the first baby into the room. She walked in with her nanny behind, and she was just so, so very tiny. At 21 months, she only weighed 17 pounds. We knew from the preliminary information theyād sent us that she was pretty introverted, but for those first few days, she was just a limp noodle, no crying, no interacting with us at all. Sheās definitely opened up to us now, but Iām getting ahead of myself. Since she was the first in, we didnāt get to see anyone elseās āgotchasā, which was kind of a bummer. And little did we know we had a long day ahead of us.
See, with the national holiday just having ended (October 1-7), and government offices reopened for the first time in a week, we rushed to get the paperwork done. I had no idea weād be completing the adoption the same day as the Gotcha, but we loaded up into a van with the other families and babies and zipped around to four different offices for certification, photos, notaries, and I canāt even remember what all. Finally we made it back to the hotel and pretty much collapsed with some Western take-out food.
Over the rest of the trip she started interacting with us more and more. She did great on all the flights, first from Nanchang to Guangzhou and a week later to the US. And now weāre here, with our days and nights flipped, learning all over again what itās like to raise a 21-month-old.
