So the difference between a movie buff and a cinephile (which is the word I usually use, I just said “movie buff” because that’s what you said) is that the former watches movies at home and the latter watches movies in the cinema?
Movies can be watched at the theater or at home. Cine is short for cinema.

I’ve never heard “cinephile” used in any other way than simply “movie lover/enthusiast”.

Another word bastardized then. Do you go to the cinema? No? Then you’re not a cinephile (“cinema lover/enthusiast”).

Something came up and I couldn’t go to the movies tonight, though it’s not that big a deal. If **Happy Feet** , **Happily N’ever After** and **Eragon** , which is what I had planned to see, were priorities, I would have seen them before now. They were earmarked as “$5 Tuesday” movies. I did see **Happy Feet** but fell asleep due to getting up very early that morning, and wanted to try it again.
