# Advice needed: looking for web host/server

I’ve finally decided that it’s time for me to have my own little space on the web. To that end, i’ve been teaching myself HTML and can now produce a reasonably decent-looking webpage.

While my pages aren’t finished yet, i’m now in the process of looking for someone to host them. I don’t want one of the really small-capacity, free webpages. I’m happy to pay a little bit for extra space and bandwidth, although not too much, 'cause i’m a poor grad student.

Ideally, i’d like about 250Mb of space, perhaps more, because i want to put a bunch of digital photos up for friends and family back in Australia. I don’t think the monthly bandwidth would need to be too high, as i can’t imagine it would be a hugely popular site.

Anyway, i was just hoping that the Doper community might be able to offer some suggestions.

[1and1.com](http://1and1.com) has a free offer of 3 years of 500mb/5gb traffic till Jan 15, 2004. I’ve an account there. I’ve heard that support sucks, but for free, I don’t care. Company’s legit.

Professional, helpful, reliable, and cheap as dirt (though not free).

I think you can get personal space for 20 bucks a month with all the support you can handle.

I host my side business (which I won’t mention here) there. Have for years. And they’ve always taken care of us.
