Advice please on getting a new television

What a beautiful picture. I don’t normally indulge myself with a purchase like this but I am glad that I did.

Nope, the mounting holes, which have screws or bolts in them already, are on the flat part. I have a Whalen stand. I didn’t think to check explicitly if it fit.
I’m not complaining. I preferred a tabletop mount, and thought I’d have to do a swivel mount because the pictures of the TV showed the feet at the ends. That they could be put in the middle solved the problem. Also, Whalen’s instruction book is written in English - real English - and they have nice features like putting each type of hardware in its own little bubble which is labeled.
As I said, the TV comes with wall mount hardware, but that doesn’t work for my living room.
Thanks for the help, everyone, but it was just a tiny quibble.

Out of curiosity, what is a Whalen?

The ocean.

Sorry. The brand of stand I got. And good one, Munch.

Bumping because half of the old flat screen Westinghouse in the living room has been flickering so we’re looking to replace it. We don’t need anything really fancy and need to keep the overall width under 42".

I’ve been looking at this 40" Hisense with Roku and it has good reviews but a few more bucks can get this 43" TCL 4K with Roku, which also has good reviews. I also plan to get a stand.

I have that exact TCL, and it’s a perfectly adequate TV. I have 2 TCLs now, a 4-Series and a 6. The 6 is noticeably better, but I don’t have any complaints about the 4 (which you linked to). I’ve really bought into the Roku interface, which I really like. My only suggestion is maybe springing for a Bluetooth remote - the IR one that comes with the 4 isn’t as good (they look identical, but the BT one doesn’t need to point directly at the sensor).

Thanks.

I have a 32" or so Insignia with Roku in my gaming area.

I’m not sure that would be a concern for us. We’ll be using the cable remote most of the time.

You’ll need the set’s remote to use the apps (netflix, etc)

I have a TCL with Roku I bought last year, I think bigger. Been great so far, and I also like the interface. My old TV was about 10 years old so the improvement in picture quality was amazing. I watch a lot of old movies, black and white, the the quality from a good DVD, say Criterion, of an old movie is awesome. Better than a theater.

Yes, I know:

That remote is primarily for turning on/off and switching between inputs. Sometimes I’ll watch an app that Roku offers and the cable box doesn’t.

WTF? I was waiting to see if the price went lower for the 4th – it went up nearly 100 bucks!

I should have mentioned that I thought the price you linked to was really good. It was all the down to $218 on Black Friday, but the usual price is around $360.

We’re in no rush. I’ll just wait to see what the price is on Black Friday, then.

Did you check prices on Prime Day? There were probably discounts then, and not just at Amazon.

Not for TVs but I did check prices on other things. Only good for Prime members, which we’re not.

As I said, though, other stores had discounts at the time.

Hm. For the price they want now, I could go out to Microcenter, pick up a 50" Element and hope it fits.

Thing is, we don’t drive.

We’ve decided on the 50" Element. I found an online store which has it for a bit less than Microcenter; tax & shipping makes it about the same as picking it up would have been.

I had to move some bookshelves a bit but I think there’s enough room.

The 43” TCL is back on sale for $267. $327 with a sound bar.
