I bow before the master. No, you don’t need to thank me. I don’t post in the Pit for precisely the reasons shown in this thread. I succumbed to the opportunity to vent on a long-standing peeve. The board is infested by and poisoned by people who behave like the Black Knight, confidently proclaiming their invincibility after their limbs have been cut off. Cute in a movie; brain-damaging in an ever-longer and more futile thread. Only a troll could enjoy engendering a pile-on by exasperated posters dedicated to fact and sanity. Only an extraordinary troll could continue the act for decades. Why the mods don’t consider that behavior as trolling is as mysterious to me as trolling itself. ---

That was glorious @GIGObuster, thanks for digging it up. And yeah, the childlike nature of the defense of citied in the threat that prompted the mocking seems quite similar to today’s target. BUT, if they only drop to that level every 10-20 years, that’s still a good sign, and I won’t pretend I don’t have my mulish moments as well, so here’s hoping. ---

Am I missing something? Isn’t this a perfect example of Right or Wrong? Either 538 had Hillary “at like 95%” or it didn’t. A fact that @Aeschines could’ve looked up in twenty seconds? **Shouldn’t this thread have been two posts long?** The OP, then a reply: “Ha, look here! 538 said that Hillary had a 99.99% chance on 11/1/16.” or “Oops, sorry, my numbers were off, but my point stands that I don’t like Nate any more.” And, we could’ve avoided outing all those mothers… . I’ve told a lot of Dopers that the Pit is a great place, full of content, not just insults. I just hope none of them see this thread… ---

it wasn’t just the % he was wrong on. After it was pointed out to him that Hillary was never at 95%, he started arguing that 538 is wrong for publishing any percentages at all, because people might get the wrong idea. All statistics should be described as either “definitely will happen” or “toss-up”. It’s just impossible for someone to understand the difference between 50%, 75%, and 95%. ---

For those who found the pitting boring, it was a pretty unemotionally charged OP. @Stranger_On_A_Train just wanted @Aeschines to own up to their errors. No insults, just a demand that A-- admit they were wrong and retract that parties own very insulting statement in the prior thread. And then Aes just decided that rather than do the adult thing, to come in with the tact and command of language of a petulant 12 year old over and over and over again. So yeah, it’s boring, because it’s asking for rationality from someone throwing a temper tantrum in this thread. No comment about other threads, although the historical documents were also quite similar in tenor. ---

Its all just acting out to get any attention of any type whether its good or bad. Perhaps I can help him if I approach him at his own level. Yo Mamma was so neglectful that she didn’t give you the love and attention you needed to grow into a fully functional adult instead of one who continually repeats Yo momma jokes as a cry for any attention whether good or bad in a Pavlovian response to feelings of low self esteem and lonliness, which all is very sad and not your fault and for which I hope you seek professional help.
