# Africa's crack problem getting worse.

A big-ass new crack in the rift valley [has opened up practically overnight](https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/2018/04/04/breaking-up-hard-do-africa-could-eventually-split-into-two-continents/485321002/). (Including [running through the house of a guy named Eliud Njoroge Mbugua](https://news.nationalgeographic.com/2018/04/east-african-great-rift-valley-crack-spd/), which reminds me of [Dionisio Pulido](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Par%C3%ADcutin#Formation)–after reading about that as a kid, I used to have nightmares about a volcano forming in my yard.)

I wonder if this will cause some climate change that will, in turn, spur the evolution of a currently bipedal primate into an upright species with unprecedented tool-using capabilities including the use of fire!
