After a long, rocky relationship, it's time for a split

Thanks for the good wishes, folks!
First thing, we’ve got to get this current infection suppressed before we can do surgery. I was really optimistic because my temp has been normal all day. Until just now. Bleah. But if it was normal most of the day, I’ll take that as a good sign!
Gotta get this infection under control!

So, how did your kidney atrophy in the first place? Repeated stones?

“That’s why God gave you two.”

Good luck & best wishes for a fast recovery!

Good luck norinew. My Dad had 2/3rds of his right kidney removed due to a malignant growth on it about 5 years ago.

Apparently the remaining 1/3rd of a kidney can still function (who knew? thought it was an all or none type of deal) and he’s been fine.

You’ll be fine, too.

Best wishes.

Yep, stone after stone, which promoted infection (those fuckin’ stones are sharp, which creates scar tissue, which gives a lovely foothold for bacteria. . .lather, rinse, repeat). Finally, the whole thing just said “the hell with it”, and gave up!

Well, it hung in there for nearly 50 years. Give it a good funeral.

Well, some years ago, my hubby worked for Waste Management, and his job (I swear I’m not making this up) was to drive around to hospitals and doctor’s offices and collect “hazardous waste”, including, well, body parts that had been removed during surgeries. According to him (and he should know), I can eulogize it, I can pray for it, but it ain’t gettin’ buried, it’s gettin’ cremated!

Just incidentally, he once had a convo with the dude who worked at the incinerator. The guy who worked there said he could “tell which parts” were being incinerated by the smell. Where is that barf-smiley when you need it?
