I dislike the newest Liberty Mutual commercial where they’re sing about “young people having fun buying insurance”. I think that’s stupid. ---

I don’t hate it: LIke Limu (and Doug) which is a parody of 70s cop shows, the young people commercial is parodying stuff like (I think) 90210. Whether they run it into the ground like Limu (and Doug) remains to be seen. But I suspect they will. ---

Yeah, that’s sort of a meta-joke, acknowledging that there’s nothing really fun about insurance, and that a commercial trying to _make_ it fun is inherently ridiculous. It’s a clever idea as a one-off; I don’t think it would work as a series of ads. ---

The Babble one where the young woman walks into a cantina in a Spanish-speaking country and orders something to eat and the adorable little girl comes to her table and they talk about how the woman learned Spanish on Babble. All fine. And then she **boops** the little girl on the nose. That sends me into a red-hot fury. I tell you if you came into my place and _booped my kid on the nose_ you would be on the curb with your carnitas down your shirt. ---

Well clever ideas as a one (or few)-off that are then expanded into long series that quickly get annoying are a Liberty Mutual trademark, although insurance in general seems to like them (Flo from Progressive, for instance, and Peyton and Nationwide (with the country guy who I can’t remember)). ---

heck, i still see ads about the asbestos lawsuits from what the 80s? they say the federal deadlines running out and they’ve expanded the settlement out to any surviving relative because there’s a ton of unclaimed money but there’s a deadline for any and all claims ---

And what’s with all the class action lawsuit ads lately that start with “Non-attorney spokesperson.” That just seems like a weird sort of disclaimer, although I’m sure there’s a legal reason for it. ---

My assumption is CYA - that if they say ‘non-attorney’, then they can’t be sued for giving legal advice (which the commercials kind of sound like they are doing). ---

that and if somone sues for false advertisement its a “I’m just getting paid read lines off a sheet” way out Sort of like now in a documentary about something controversial you’ll see sometimes " narrator x has not verified all claims and was not involved in the actual making of this documentary " because of the dan rather/CBS scandal in the 80s and 90s when CBS had a primetime documentary of the contras in Nicaragua and dan rather narrated it and it turned out that 10 years later it was discovered that a lot of the footage wasn’t what it was described as or exaggerated … and just plain faked … and rather was caught up in it having done the narration and didn’t fact check it or anything It was sort of the beginning of the end of his CBS career ---

Hide my skin? Not me. Okay, a fine concept to deliver the message, but what has left me wondering is do teenager really gather in fours under overpasses to put together dance routines for no one?
