Well, there you go: I find the commercial so annoying that I haven’t paid enough attention to realize that what I’m annoyed about didn’t actually happen. (Still not going to buy Ensure!) ---

I just don’t see how the ‘Auntie’s’ reaction of hostility/suspicion against the mother makes sense. ‘Puzzlement’ might work, or even a sort of ‘you’re doing this wrong’ critical tone–but that’s not what the actress is conveying, to my ears. Your mileage may vary. ---

When I was a kid in the 1970s, I saw a cartoon where a wife is greeting her husband at the door, while pointing at the baby in front of the TVs. “She said her first word today. It was ‘irregularity.’” ---

I tried to find a clip, because nothing is less interesting than talking about a commercial that no one else has seen. It’s for California Lottery scratch offs, so maybe you can find it. Basically the ad campaign is “fun ways to scratch your lottery card”. The one I loathe features a young woman and a guy sitting on their couch. She gets up and tapes a scratch off card to the wall, then uses a laser pointer to get their cat to jump up and scratch the card. The idea is kind of clever but the woman irritates me on so many levels that I finally had to come here and vent about it in an effort to scrub her from my mind. We’re all familiar with “resting grouch face” (formerly misogynist RBF). This young lady has " resting dumbass face". Her wide eyed, slack jaw expression while she watches her cat go crazy pisses me off each and every time, and that’s saying a lot since it’s played at every commercial break. I hate the way they’ve styled her, from her unflattering pleated pants, stubby lavender nails and dopey topknot. The (former) homeowner in me is nauseated at the sight of encouraging repeated claw attacks to the wall. It’s just a clump of unpleasantness, comprised of some of the things I dislike most. ---
