Well, as Albert Einstein said – “Who really even cares anymore what’s fake and what’s real?”.

New ad for some sort of car. Woman is in the middle of a really bad (first?) date, who then announces he “forgot” his wallet. She then sneaks off to the “refuge” of her car.

Umm, how about the restaurant? She ate, she should at least drop off her half before leaving otherwise she has committed a crime.

Well, with that particular commercial, gender-reverse would have the woman saying she didn’t have any money with her so the man would have to pay. A lot of traditionalists would respond _‘good! That’s the way it’s **supposed** to be!’_

Though I supposed even they wouldn’t admire the idea of the man reacting by leaving the restaurant to take off in his wonderful car…

I guess I’ve never watched closely enough to see this. Yes: that takes testicular fortitude indeed.

You can see why they wouldn’t want to show actual “remodeling” jobs, given that the business involves putting a new tub or shower or tub/shower OVER the existing one—resulting in a MUCH smaller tub and/or shower than you had before.

It’s a meme for products aimed at women. Not so much for products aimed at men. In those, women, if they appear at all, tend to be nothing but admiring and adoring of the man who uses The Product. (I’m sure all of us can cite many, many examples.)

There was a commercial for _something_ that ran years and years ago - I think it may have been one of those anti-smoking things? - that presented macular degeneration (and the accompanying eye injections) as punishment for having smoked. This always pissed me off; the father of one of my mom’s best friends developed macular degeneration, and he had never touched any tobacco (or other smokable items), yet here was this commercial inviting people to judge him for his health problems.

Ah, I didn’t realize another movie was coming out. Combine that with a vehicle with loads of seating, that at least makes sense.

Some car with parking assist. Not sure, but I don’t think your car can be abled to come get you in front of the restaurant from wherever it was parked.

Just watched it. They haven’t ordered, no food. It’s the immediated get to know you talk. His first remark is that he thought she was taller. Then immediately is showing pics of himself shirtless, and air drumming. She’s secretly turning on her car and backing it into position for a quick get away. She ditched a bad date, didn’t stiff the restaurant anything.

Hyundai Tucson.

Not all situations are gender balanced. She did nothing wrong, unless you would prefer she confront him about being a lousy date.

Guys don’t typically freak about having to pay, and don’t typically ditch a bad date. They go through with it and hope to get laid, then blow her off after.

Which company? Bath Fitter is the company that does tub over tub. Several other companies do full bath remodels in 1 day with tearing out of shower/tub and new installs.

or something like that.

Yeah, it wouldn’t work to sell anything to anybody. Too discordant from our cultural expectations.

Fair point. The ‘smaller’ thing wouldn’t be a reason to fail to show an actual Before and After in the case of a full tearing out/new install job.

Not really a commercial, just a promo. On Grit (from which my TV in the bedroom never strays) a promo for Jeremiah Johnson, which features the same headshot of Robert Redford smiling and nodding at least 4 or 5 times. Just creepy.

It’s more aggravating they’ve shown it 20 times in 3 months. I used to enjoy seeing it occasionally. Uncut. Ad free on a movie premium channel. Gah!!

Grit does have the ads to their showings cut creepily. I don’t like the ones where it looks like the different shows are answering questions and talking between themselves. Yeah. That fooled me, _never_ !

I’m seeing an increasing number of commercials for everything from support braces to garden hoses using the annoyingly intelligence-insulting “We’re gonna invoke folk superstitions about the healing and purifying powers of copper while staying one millimeter on the right side of the line between puffery and actionable fraud” tactic.

I don’t know if this has been mentioned and I’m not going to go thru the thousands of posts to find out, so apologies if I repeat.

Ads for pills - whatever kind - isn’t it amazing that only one pill at a time comes out of the bottle when turned over?? I tip a simple bottle of tylenol to take a couple, and I get a handful!! Even when I tip it gently, I can’t get just one or two.

They lie!!! 😛
