Did everyone know that it’s Circle Week at Target? I have been blissfully unaware of how annoying Target’s ad campaign is, because I mostly watch streaming channels, and have somehow missed it. It’s just in the last couple of weeks that they’ve infiltrated Hulu with a vengeance. And now, I want to bludgeon their spokes moron with a Target shopping cart. The entire premise of this commercial is that no one can understand what she’s saying? You can bet your bottom “durler” that I’m not shopping at Target this week. ---

No, the Target Lady is played by comedian Kristen Wiig and it was a recurring characterl when she was part of the cast of SNL. Not that that lessens the annoying factor for you. ---

Bumping this for the Prime Time commercials with Megan Thee Stallion. Besides the fact that I find her voice incredibly irritating, how does being able to order things at such incredible discounts open up a new career for her? I won’t even discuss the dog walking on his hind legs and displaying his junk. ---

I love Kristin Wiig. She is, hands down, one of my favorite comedic actors, but, holy shit, if I see that Target Circle Week ad one more time, I going to drive to Hollywood and track down whomever’s idea that was and strangle them with a Target Circle Dirler. Besides, who can’t tell she’s saying, “circle,” in that ad? It is friggin’ grating. I hate that character of hers too anyway. ---

I cannot stop hating Lume. Every new commercial is a million times worst than the one before. Now it’s a sassy, folksy, black talkin’, older woman whose only saving grace is she doesn’t say ‘honey chile" even though you can tell she really wants to. But she does address one of my main complaint about the Lume creator and gynecologists’ not being a chemist. Because as folksy black gramma says, “It’s made by a gynecologist, so you just KNOW she knows about a woman’s body!” So fucking grating. Even worse than the original grandma who thinks bathing if your twat smells means there’s something wrong with you. ---

I’m not sure that this is what you are getting at, but the terminology around individuals with higher BMIs has shifted over the last decade or so in an effort to use people-first language. Using “obese” and “overweight” as adjectives is considered labeling or defining individuals with their condition (as defined by BMI classifications). It’s similar to the shift that occurred from “disabled person” to “person with a disability” or “epileptic” to “person with epilepsy” or “diabetic” to “person with diabetes.” It is now preferred to use “person with obesity” or “person with overweight.” I believe that the AP Stylebook made this change just this year. It’s awkward at first, a bit clunky, but it’s simply an evolution of language. (My quote of Skywatcher’s initial post lacks the embedded video) ---

Just like those songwriters who keep using “beautiful” as a noun. NO! Overweightness would also work. And ultimately changing the words or phrases doesn’t change the cultural attitude in itself, so the new phrases just come to be used as derogatorily as the old. ---

Sling tv(?) has one featuring couch potatoes - people in potato costumes- frolicking by the pool and other activities. The exact opposite of what couch potatoes do. I’m also really tired of the ads for Nutrafol hair growth supplement. One dude talks about how he was so sad about his hair thinning but after using the product, he has an amazing head of flowing hair, as he attempts to shake his very average non-flowing locks. The ones for the women’s version are just as stupid. A mother, who actually does have long hair, talks about losing her hair due to pregnancy. She emphasizes that her hair wasn’t just thinning, " it was gone". The baby in her arms looks to be under a year old. So she went from bald to past shoulder length hair in 12 mos.? Riiiight. ---
