My parents moved into a one-story ranch house when I was about four or five and they still live there, more than fifty years later. And for the past few years, my father’s been in a wheelchair but able to get around the house on his own. There is a small step down to the family room and the garage but my brother bought a short rubber ramp from Amazon for that, and the doorways and hallways aren’t quite wide enough, so there are scuff marks from the wheelchair everywhere. But, yes, they were fortunate in the house they chose. I still rent but if I every build or buy, I plan to look for accessible features. Like even two stories are fine if there is a spot where an elevator can be added. And wider hallways and door openings would be good. Ideally, every house design would include these considerations. ---

The commercial where the asshole is trying to stop people from “turning into their parents” is getter worse- now he is ordering them they cant talk about traffic or the weather to new arrivals, and the jerk ordered some dude wearing a “funny” apron while BBQing to :“take if off or I will”. ---

This plays on a very old commercial trope, which says that if one buys something for less money than a competitor, one must immediately spend the balance of the price difference on something stupid and frivolous. How about, you know, just spending less money? ---
