Bose has a new series of ‘unboxing’ commercials on YouTube. One features an overly expressive actress reminiscent of the ‘alien girl’ from that late '90s PlayStation commercial, and the newest one has a guy who has to tap-tap-tap-tap-tap-tap his nails on every flat surface of the Bose product. I’m not entirely sure what’s being advertised in either one because despite the excessive length of the ads, they never really show the product in use.

A series of Target commercials that have been relentlessly playing, first a Spring-related one and now a Summer version, both use as a backing song this earwormy yet very annoying tune that sounds like it’s being sung by an elf mainlining helium.

I just saw a commercial that uses the animated characters from Toy Story 5 to sell [AT&T services](https://about.att.com/story/2026/toy-story-5.html). If you’ve seen any trailers for Toy Story 5, you’ll know that the story is about how Bonnie, the lead character (an eight-year-old girl), is so obsessed with her new AI-enabled tablet called Lilypad that she’s ignoring her other toys.

I’ve heard that many parents are concerned about how much time children (even very young one) spend on smartphones, tablets and other digital technology. I’ve even heard that Silicon Valley parents, many of whom work for the very companies that produce this technology, strive to minimize their own children’s exposure to it. I’ve [heard](https://www.nytimes.com/2018/10/26/style/silicon-valley-nannies.html) that some Silicon Valley “parents are now asking nannies to keep phones, tablets, computers and TVs off and hidden at all times. Some are even producing no-phone contracts, which guarantee zero unauthorized screen exposure, for their nannies to sign.”

So I thought it was more than a bit ironic that the AT&T ad ends on Bonnie playing with her mother’s smartphone.

The ads for the World Cup are Vomit City. They show US-Brazil in the final and it comes down to corner kick with time expiring which of course the US heads in the goal. Massive celebrations throughout the country. Texas runs out of beer. Redneck takes the football bobblehead off his dash to replace it with a soccer bobblehead. Mike Eruzione makes an appearance when someone asks if you believe in miracles. Puh-leeze. The US is not going to win it all. Even if it did happen, there would not be mass pandemonium in the streets and Texas sure as hell wouldn’t run out of beer. Soccer will always be a decade away from being a big deal in the US, just as it has been for the last 50 years.

Damn, there’s a new one, and it claims the same vinegar and what appears to be cinnamon concoction is the reason there’s no Alzheimer’s or dementia in Israel, while mentioning this recipe is apparently all over the Bible. I’m not going to bother looking it up this time. I’ve obviously already spent more brain power on this than they have, already.

Vinegar cures diabetes has been in media since I was a child and seeing it written in a old Farmers Almanac at my Granny’s house.

Miffs me as well.

Heck, I heard it from a medical professional. At dialysis.

OK, so online ads for that insurance company with all the jingles and mascots have long had this thing “Interactive tiles! Hover over to learn more”. I have, of course, ignored it, because contrary to their messaging, I assume that an insurance company that puts so much effort into their advertising gimmicks is just bad insurance. But now it’s spreading: I just saw the same “Interactive tiles!” thing on an (also-obnoxious) Macy’s ad.

Oh, another one that’s been bugging me lately… It’s some sort of medication, but the commercial shows a bunch of chicken nuggets tumbling down a conveyer belt for some reason, being fed into a glowing blue oven, and coming out in nice orderly rows. I think the nuggets are supposed to be molecules or something… but they’re chicken nuggets.

_All_ medication commercials bug the shit out of me and my wife. IMO, pharma commercials should be banned, like cigarette ads were in the '70s.

They pay for a lot of TV. And they are sorta relaxing, what with people playing on the beach, and so forth. And most of us never need any of those drugs.

The Kars for Kids needs to be perma-banned.

The various dubious insurance ads- life insurance for seniors and auto repair insurance are close to being scams.

Fun fact (forgive me if you already know): Only two countries on earth allow direct-to-consumer advertising for pharmaceuticals - the USA and New Zealand. With a powerful Pharma lobby, this is unlikely to change anytime in the near future, unfortunately.
