I coulda swore Bobby Brainworm said something about getting rid of them on TV. Of course, he says a lot of things. Actually, I’m a little surprised trump hasn’t lifted the ban on tobacco advertising. First amendment, those damn regulations, and owning the libs- trifecta! ---

That said, their advertising has gotten sticky over the last few years. It used to be that of the sick kids charity ads, the Shriners Children’s Hospital commercials were by far the most overly cute and cloying, but they’ve seemed to have cut back on the sugar and pity in order to emphasize how, despite their illnesses, the kids they treat are now living active lives. St. Jude, on the other hand, has largely adopted Shriners’ old approach. ---

There’s a still ad I’ve seen online lately for the World Cup, that show a close-up of a player holding the trophy. But between the golden color of the trophy, and the gloved hand of the player, what he’s holding looks exactly like a giant bumblebee. Well, OK, bumblebees aren’t nearly as obnoxious as a lot of things we see in ads, but I’m sure it’s not the image they were going for. ---

Missouri will be voting in the fall to remove our income tax and reduce property taxes (because it worked so well for Kansas, and you know that historically, Missouri and Kansas are like brothers). I don’t know the plan to replace the revenue, but I assume it will have to be an enormous increase in sales tax. Youtube is serving up ads in favor. The latest one is claiming that somehow the revenue will be extracted from all the data centers that are springing up. I can find no explanation for how that will work, but since we know that there is one thing the GOP believes in it is taxing corporations, I guess I’ll have to vote for it. ---

Started seeing commercials for Smuckers Uncrustables; there’s a sandwich cut in a circle and a sandwich with a round hole in the middle. For some reason, the middle-less sandwich is leaking dark jelly throughout the ad and it looks like he’s shitting his drawers constantly. There’s even a technician following him around replacing wipes. With one stuck to his butt. ---

The Norwegian Cruise line commercial with the Royal Navy. Not the commercial itself, but that they have transitioned to the short version that muddles the whole plot line and removes the point of the ad. Is it really important to save those ten seconds? ---

Yeah, but do note that the regular seaman in the Royal Navy during the age of sail didnt have a uniform as such, and went barefoot quite often. Mind you, the crew for the Captains gig would have spiffy stuff if the captain could afford it, and there was a wool jacket and “slops”. Wool was absolutely the right thing to wear in the Channel, North sea, etc. Shoes were worn on shore leave, etc. ---

There’s an advert for Walkers crisps where a bunch of famous footballers are having a World Cup watch party in Miami, but oh noez they’ve forgotten the Walkers crisps, so instead of going into the supermarket and buying some they ask shoppers if they’ve bought any and invite those who have along, Fair enough advert logic, except **you can’t buy Walkers in America**. What the hell is that rando shopper buying with the Walkers label? It’s apparently a global Lays marketing ad but either don’t port it to UK or adapt it to make sense. ---

I suppose Chick-Fil-A commercials have been mentioned previously. At least that awful shit-kickin’ line dance one is being replaced by a happy-happy joy joy ‘hooray it’s summer!’ one to grow irritated over. ---

It defeats the purpose of the commercial (being set in Miami), but there’s a British goods shop in Freeport, ME that stocks loads of Walkers products. I probably wouldn’t be aware of the brand if it wasn’t for encountering them there. They also carry Tayto, which I’ve found to be tastier for some flavors (flavours?). ---

Guitar commercials on YouTube. Someone has a sale on acoustic guitars. Three beautiful guitars are lined up. The music accompanying the commercial is some cliche distorted bluesy kind of crap. Then another company has some electrics for sale. The accompanying music is a string quartet. The thing they never do is let you know what the guitars sound like clean. ---
