They may have been going for an “OMG I’m so nervous and excited to try something new!” tone, but the poor actress is giving facial expressions that say “I hope I’m doing this well enough to not get slapped today.” The closest thing I can compare this to is my first time driving a new (as in, I was the first owner) car. Yeah, I was scared as hell, but I was also super excited and happy. I’m not getting any of that excitement from the commercial. ---

I just think it’s fantastic insomuch as everyone hates it for so many varying reasons. We can almost unanimously agree it’s bad, but _why_ it’s so bad is a fungible discussion. ---

It’s true that not everyone hates it. In most every discussion that I’ve seen about this commercial, there are a fair number of people in the comments saying things like “OMG! It’s just a commercial, and a Peloton would be a great gift! Why does everyone have to be so offended by everything?!” Personally, I don’t think anyone is really “offended” by it. Most of the criticism is pretty tongue-in-cheek, and it’s really about the outrageous reaction the woman gives to getting an overpriced exercise bike. ---

I liked the parody ad from last year (before this current “It’s a _Good_ Life” ad came out) where the owner becomes one with the “cult of Peloton”. It shows the disintegration of a marriage because of the wife’s obsession with her bike. It seems to have vanished off the internet, but it was pretty good. Very professionally made. ---

Oh my god, I can’t believe how the media is running with this story. Like you said, no one is really “offended” or “angry” about it. My reaction was more of a roll-eyes, thinking about how they advertisers were really buying into their own hype, and the desperation of trying to make their product some kind of luxury yuppie fad. Of course the media has to dig to find the most outrageous comments they can find, not even attempt to find out if they were made tongue-in-cheek, and report how everyone is outraged, concerned for the woman’s well being, and want to hang the husband. Peloton, get over yourself. Media, get over yourself. ---

I saw something this morning about how the actor playing the husband is worried this will hurt his career. More like, “Hey, I was in the famous commercial too! Look at MEEEEEEE.” ---
