Agree with most of the “meh, but I’ll wait” comments. Very formulaic. Also, once a jet depressurizes there is no further force pushing people out the hole, just buffeting from the wind. I’d guess a jet that size would have depressurized in about 10 seconds, no more, and the only danger would have been getting into the turbulence zone around the hole. (Incidentally, the life raft thing would have worked just fine, some details about exactly covering the hole aside. The very last line and its setup made the whole ep for me, though. One good sharp crackle amid some pretty tired storytelling and dialogue. Betting Coulson is nonhuman/resurrected in “Tahiti” - they are overplaying this bit without adequately masking it. Does anyone else think Simmons sounds like a jumped-up Daisy from Downton Abbey? “Should ah go set the nuc’lar fahrs on t’hangah deck, then?” ---

I’m guessing her natural accent is not what we are hearing. I think I read she is from a more northern part of England. ---

Nobody mentioned my favorite comic-book science line. Coulson asked Skye if she heard about the antimatter meteor that struck near Miami. Antimatter meteor that lasted long enough to splash into the ocean? That sounds like a GQ thread. Antimatter, like gamma radiation, must work differently in this world. Nobody mentioned the other elephant in the room, either. This entire series is nothing more than a long commercial/teaser for the billion dollar Marvel franchise movies. All the background is coming from the movies already out - not from the Marvel universe. Little Nemo got that right, but didn’t go far enough. Nothing new can be introduced in the series unless it is a non-spoiler for the upcoming movies. Nothing can be allowed to lower the next billion dollars of income. If they want to introduce a new villain it will be in the movies, and the tv series will get to use the scraps a year later. If they want to feature a shiny glowing thing, it will be in the movies and the tv series gets cheap knockout things. This is what old-time Hollywood used to call a backstager. It’s set behind-the-scenes of the real show. Hollywood cheated regularly by ending those movies with scenes that never could be produced on Broadway so that the full movie magic was on screen. _Agents_ can’t even do that. They’re stuck entirely with the guys who pull the curtains and aim the lights. Can this work? Define “work”. Satisfy the fan base? No. Last more than a season? Sure. It will be successful - at giving us something to gripe about and tear apart on a weekly basis. Isn’t that enough? ---

I guess I see it more as an issue of who gave the orders rather than who carried them out (or tried to not carry them out). As a historical analogy, I don’t blame the United States Army for invading Iraq - the decision was made by politicians not generals. ---

But that never happened. The missile that people saw Iron Man propel into the portal was Chitari. He saved Manhattan from an _alien_ nuke. Go ahead…check the newspaper accounts. Read all the official documentation. The nuke was Chitari. And we have always been at war with Eastasia. ---

But total shout-out to **Stranger on a Train** that when they talked about Slingshot, my first reaction was “Why would they do that? It’s easier to throw it out of the Solar System altogether than it is to throw it into the Sun. It takes less energy that way.” ---

Joss has tons and tons of skills, talent, creativity…brilliant with dialogue…but one thing he lacks is the ability to pace a seasonal arc. I always thought that getting JMS from Babylon 5 to team up with Joss would be great. Joss’s writing plus JMS’s plotting would be great. ---
