Danger all around us:
**A deadly fish hook accident** is all too common in the U.S., with around 1,200 people dying from such mishaps every year, according to a recent survey by the National Fisheries Institute.

A number of ways to protect yourself from these fish hook accidents have emerged over the years, including wearing a wide-brimmed hat, a waterproof coat, or even the plastic sleeve on a hand towel.

For people who want to go further, the Institute of Medicine says that the best way to reduce the number of fish hook accidents is simply to not go into the water in the first place.

**A deadly USB cord accident** in the United States this week led to the death of a man. As of Wednesday, the investigation into the accident remained ongoing.

The incident occurred Sunday at around 11:00 a.m. local time (10:00 a.m. ET) in Virginia Beach, Virginia, where a 19-year-old man, identified as David R. Deleon of Charlottesville, Virginia, was using the cord to charge his cellphone, [WAVY.com](http://WAVY.com) reported.

The cord was too long for Deleon’s hand, which was attempting to pull it out of his pocket. The cord wrapped around his neck, and he suffered a severe neck strain as a result of the accident. He was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

His cause of death was determined to be “extensive compression to the neck resulting in cervical spine compression,” according to a news release from the Virginia Beach Police Department.

**A deadly mop accident** at the National Mop Shop in the City of Cleveland last week claimed a young man’s life.

On Tuesday, the Department of Public Safety said an employee at the National Mop Shop, a chain of retail stores with approximately 80 stores throughout the country, was injured when a mop he was operating hit the floor.

A passerby noticed the accident and called 911 at 8:15 p.m. Tuesday.

The man was rushed to MetroHealth Medical Center, but he succumbed to his injuries Wednesday afternoon.

The man was a 16-year-old who worked in the City of Cleveland’s public schools.

The National Mop Shop was placed on voluntary lockdown Tuesday night following the accident.

No other information about the worker’s identity was available as of Wednesday evening.

**A deadly tadpole accident** in a Queensland river.

The adult fish, a giant prawn, was snorkelling through the River Tambo in the Northern Rivers.

As it was approaching the surface, the big fish lost its balance and fell into the river.

The juvenile fish was left clinging to its tail and died instantly.

A rescue worker said they were called to the accident at about 5pm.

“The adult prawn was trying to get out of the water, but unfortunately slipped out of its natural habitat,” he said.

“When it was pulled up, it had a big hole on its tail.”

A Department of Primary Industries spokeswoman said a post-mortem would be conducted in Brisbane next week.
Let’s be careful out there.

**Gorbachev Sings Tractors: Turnip! Buttocks!**

The Soviet Bloc also had a penchant for the bizarre. In 1968, the Russian military staged a bizarre mock attack on a nearby U.S. base. To test the reaction of U.S. forces, Soviet pilots took off from a base near Pskov in eastern Russia and landed with parachutes. A simulated bombing mission was aborted when one of the jets got stuck in the air, so a second plane was sent in to try and drop some explosives. But the second jet had to land, and when it landed, the parachute failed. The Soviets had to abandon the mock attack and continue the simulated attack.

**Bugs Bunny concedes it really is wabbit season** in New York!

The New York Times has an article about a city-wide wabbit-hunt by the NYPD. The paper reports:

“In the Bronx, a borough in which more than a dozen people have been killed by raccoons this year, police are stepping up patrols and posting notices on street corners. In the borough’s other boroughs, police officers are asking residents not to leave their doors or windows open when they are sleeping in the woods.”

In Brooklyn, the city health department will be providing free vaccines for the public in hopes of protecting them from the rabid animals.

Raccoon, raccoon, possum, and skunk infestations are on the rise in New York, and have been reported in at least three different neighborhoods in Brooklyn, according to the Associated Press.

Raccoons, which are also called “rat cats,” are not native to New York City. They are

Truly, I would have thought that one one of the last professions that was vulnerable, but…

Go to [https://talktotransformer.com/](https://talktotransformer.com/) and input a prompt (a word, a sentence, a paragraph) and the AI program chews on it and spits out a continuation, matching the tone and style of the input surprisingly well. (One sample I read was part of an interview between Trump and a reporter. I swear the computer version sounded just like him, except it was a little too coherent.)

Anyway, the following was my experiment. The first sentence was what I input, all the rest was the AI.

===

Today my neighbor finally cleared the fallen leaves from his yard.

And as I’m sitting down to watch “Lawnmower Man” this week, I’ve got to say that I’m amazed at how many viewers I’m getting to talk about it with.

This week I’ll be talking about the movie’s plot, how my neighbor has the worst lawnmower, my favorite scenes and, most important, what I’m watching for this week.

So without further ado, here’s the list:

1. “Lawnmower Man”

I’m in.

The plot:

In the late 1980s, a suburban couple is on vacation in Alaska. They’re spending the day hiking, enjoying the scenery and taking in the local wildlife.

# One day, the couple spots a lone man running around in the woods. He’s naked, carrying a chain saw and looking for something to eat. The man has one goal in mind: kill the entire

A murderous hungry man naked in the Alaska forests … I think the plot has real possibilities, don’t you?

Well it has improved over the years but it’s not new. Cnet reviews (some anyway) have been written by ai for a while now iirc. I remember reading a semi-scandalous seeming handful of articles some years ago about it. The sky above the port was the color of television, tuned to a dead channel. The port was a dirty, crowded place, and there were thousands of ships in the harbor. At night, they would come home, and those ships were full of people. But the sky was bright. The port was bright. The people were safe, because the sky was bright.

The sky above the port was dark, but there was another sky. A bright, bright black one. It was the sky of the city, where the people lived. The city was a city of thousands of people, scattered in all directions. It was a world of skyscrapers, glass and steel, and a thousand different races. They were from everywhere, of every color, every creed. They were all mixed together, all human, all of one race, of the same skin.

And the port was a dark place. There were hundreds of ships, all of different shapes and sizes. The water was filled with people and water, and there were

**It was a dark and stormy night.** The skies were a pitch black in the distance and the city of Boston was ablaze. It was the early hours of the morning. The wind and rain had not let up for the day.

I had just arrived at the Boston Herald office after the first night of campaigning for the 2016 presidential election in Massachusetts, and I had just finished my final reporting assignment of the day. I was standing in a back hallway in the newspaper’s newsroom. It was early, but I was getting the hang of things. There were a few people milling around in the hallway. A woman in a business suit had just walked in, and I recognized her instantly. It was my new colleague, Maggie Haberman. She was coming over to me for a final report. We had been at it for about 15 minutes when I decided to go outside for a smoke.

A few minutes later, I returned to the newsroom, where I was greeted by a colleague of mine. I explained the situation and he told me that the police had taken over, and he had to leave. He left immediately. It’s no good to talk about a police takeover in the newsroom. It’s much better to wait for news of our own. It’s true that I did not get a copy of the statement from the police, but it did not come from a police officer. It came from an officer I had asked to sign a document.

The next day, on July 13, I went back to the police station to get my statement and my laptop. My colleague and I tried to find out why the police had taken over. They explained that there were two cases, one against us and one against the police station. The police had just arrived to take over the station and were asking us to leave. We had two hours left. We didn’t know if we were going to be arrested. We were still waiting for our flight.

The plane, which was headed to a festival in Costa Rica, had been carrying 12 passengers and three crew members when it disappeared from radar screens at 11.30pm on Thursday night.

All aboard had been able to make it off the plane safely, and the plane was spotted at 2.30am by a pilot who saw it flying through a cloud.

At the time, investigators believed the plane may have turned and landed in Nicaragua.

But on Friday, the US Coast Guard announced that they had found debris, believed to be from the plane, in the area of Punta Nizales.

The plane disappeared from radar at 11.30pm

“The plane has been located and recovered,” Coast Guard spokesman Mike Eustace said.

A spokesman for Nicaraguan president Daniel Ortega, Daniel Varela, said the plane was found in a “deep hole” near Managua.

The BBC’s Will Grant in Nicaragua says this is the second time in two weeks that Nicaraguan forces have recovered an aircraft from a secret airstrip in the country’s mountains.

We were surprised that the aircraft was found alive, despite it being submerged in a shallow area of the ocean.

We believe it’s a Cubana jet. We believe there was no sabotage on the aircraft - but there are certainly questions to be asked - whether Cubana had this plane at their disposal and whether it was used to fly back to Cuba from Nicaragua Richard Franklin, Air Accidents Investigation Branch

The plane was found in a deep hole on a mountainside overlooking Managua, according to the Nicaraguan newspaper El Vocero.

No survivors or debris have been found at the site.

There were no reports of violence or looting at the park.

More than 1,000 people live in the camps and are receiving humanitarian aid.

The number of victims and casualties has not been released, but aid workers say there have been two deaths and more than 200 injuries.

More than 70,000 people have been forced from their homes.

There were reports of looting at the park, but Mr Hossain says the government is in control.

The UN has appealed for $4bn (£2.4bn) to help the displaced people of Rakhine state, where the Rohingya Muslims are accused of being illegal immigrants from Bangladesh.

‘Sickening’

Mr Hossain said more than 1,000 Rohingya have been sheltering at the camp, which has a capacity for up to 5,000 people.

He said some people are already refusing food and water and the situation is becoming more serious every day.

He said the situation is getting worse by the day.

“In some places, there is no water at all. The rain has been so hard,” he said.

‘It’s going to get worse before it gets better’

He said he has tried to reach out to the US authorities, but they have not responded.

He said there were some positive news reports but it does not look good at this point.

He said they were in touch with UNICEF and the Red Cross but he had not heard back.

“I’m worried,” he said.

“It’s going to get worse before it gets better.”

He said he would like to try to help as much as he can with whatever he can spare.

He said they are getting a lot of people in touch with their families. The number of people contacting them has gone up dramatically since the first wave of attacks.

“There are two main ways people contact us: via the police or their friends and family,” he said.

“We have had more calls and we have been able to deal with more of them in the last 24 hours than we normally can.”

**All I want for Christmas is**

to know where my parents are. I don’t know what they’re up to.

My dad works at the airport.

My mom’s a nurse.

How would you like to find out?

Well…I’ll just go around town.

I’m just gonna try the rest of the town.

DOGS: Boo! Boo! Boo! Boo!

[They get some more candy.]

> In the distance, a red dot could be seen as the light of the sun came through a crack in the clouds. The light shined on a spot at the bottom of the mountain, and the spot revealed a black silhouette. It was a man, but there was nothing human in his head. Nothing but pure fire. He was staring into the fire, but there was nothing in his eyes.
