Where I used to live, recycling had the following rules:
Glass should be recycled.
Recyclables must be placed in the 8 foot tall dumpster with the metal bottom.
Glass must not be broken.
Plastic bags must not be recycled (It would jam up the machinery)
I don’t know of any glass jar that would survive an 8 foot drop, so I can only assume we were expected to buy or construct reusable slings with which to gently lower our jars to the bottom.
My in-laws in San Jose lived in an apartment building with a recycling chute that dropped down several stories. Again, I don’t know how they expected any glass jars to survive that drop either.
My husband likes those little glass jars of yogurt, and he leaves the dirty ones sitting on the counter, because he is going to wash them out and put them in the recycle bin. Yeah, any minute now. I have started just dumping them in the trash when I see them. He has called me out on this kind of thing before saying “hey I was going to recycle that!”. I just say “well no one is stopping you!”. Ain’t nobody got time for that.
Well, I ain’t a gonna need this house no longer
Ain’t a gonna need this house no more
Ain’t got time to fix the shingles, ain’t got time to fix the floor
Ain’t got time to oil the hinges nor to mend no window panes
Ain’t I gonna need this house no longer I’m gettin’ ready to meet the saints
Gato had time to show off tricky posting skills. For those who didn’t see it, go back and highlight the apparently blank post. Gato posted in white to throw us off.
Unfortunately it’s hard to get and keep good dispatchers in much of the country. It’s a tough and high pressure job that usually doesn’t pay that well. A dispatcher with my department with the same amount of years makes about 1/3 of what I do. Of course that’s base pay and they do get overtime on top of that but it still makes them very underpaid.
I thought about the pay being too low. I had a friend who quit working the 911 call center and went to work at Wal-Mart. The pay wasn’t much more, but low stress made the difference.
