Tallinn is a funny town - beautifully preserved, very picturesque, and full of pissed-up Finns who come over on the ferry to take advantage of the cheap beer. Hard to believe that less than 20 years ago it was firmly behind the Iron Curtain and mostly known for the nearby nuclear submarine base (which you can [visit](http://www.appelsiini.net/2006/8/paldiski-nuclear-submarine-training-center)…) ---

And around five years ago, there was a peculiar article in the Toronto Star that described how Estonia was the home of the most gorgeous women in the world because it was a crossroads of Scandinavia, the Slavic lands, Finland, and Eastern Europe. In addition, the Great Patriotic War had carried off so many men that the women had to compete for the attentions of the remaining men, resulting in surreally-gorgeous women. Plus, they walked a lot, which helped them remain thin. It was over the top, and caused a lot of angry letters the next week in the editorial pages. I sometimes wonder about the people who wrote the article. Did they mean it seriously? ---

The most beautiful girl on the planet was working there. All the Baltic countries are full of stunning women. And yeah, the town is full of drunken Finns. Booze costs a fraction of what it does in Finland. EVERYBODY on the ferry to Helsinki was carrying the maximum limit of 4 cases of beer. ---

Do not google “estonia women” unless you want your head to explode. I did find this [intersting article about the Estonian diaspora in Canada](http://www.tgmag.ca/magic/mt51.html). Apparently the Toronto area had the largest group of Estonians outside Estonia! (My best friend between grade 3 and grade 6 was Estonian. Family name of Tammerand…) ---

You all are a regular Estonian Tourist Board, y’know? The only Estonian I ever knew was my great-aunt’s best friend in Des Moines. She was always telling me I had to marry an Estonian girl because “they have to have at least 3 kids.” Not my thing, parenthood, but if they’re that hot they can kiek me in the kok all they like. ---
