Air combat games for PC

The dynamic single-player campaign is spruced up, several new flyable aircraft are added, and the multiplayer ‘net code’ is cleaned up. Certainly worth the money, IMHO.

I just wanted to follow up to say I’ve tried Aces High. It’s a lot of fun. It’s not too simmy, but you do have blackouts and redouts and each plane is VERY different. My best planes are odd ones: The Seafire and the Ki-64 (I think that’s it, it’s a Japanese fighter, green). I tried my usual favorites (Corsair, Spitfire, Typhoon, Hurricane, P51, P47) and was doing nothing. Then I joined a mish and grabbed a Seafire and reeled off 4 kills in a row. I like the KiIThink better, but it carries very little ammo, and I tend to shoot a lot. I usually use it when the field’s being attacked, so I can waddle off the ground faster. I don’t know if I’m going to pay $15 a month to stay with it once my trial ends, but I’ll think about it. 2 weeks free to try, though, it can’t hurt.

The crowd isn’t as lively as the AW crowd was, but the crowd is much smaller (~30 people to a side).

I’m GMRyujin flying with the Knights. I’ll be the guy in the Seafire diving on bombers and goons.

Oh, and you know what I’d LOVE to see? A modern version of Knights of the Sky. Best PC flying game EVER!!! IMHO, of course.

GMRyujin about Aces High, I’m glad to see you’re giving it a whirl. You can still play in the 8 slot free arenas after your two week trial period is up if you don’t want to pay by month. I hate that they start your free time as soon as you download and activate the game. By the time you’ve learned enough to be nearly adequate the introductory period is over.

Yea, two weeks to play a flight sim is like that 3 hour trial version they recently ran for Civ3 Gold. And I would Skillet, but it’s the large-scale strategic game that interests me. I like flying around and helping with The Effort.

Though, man, I had one of those Perfect Gaming Moments earlier. I took off in my Seafire, climbed to 16,000 feet through a mountain canyon, popped up over the mountains and flew into a beautiful sunset, engine purring along. Then I pounced on a couple of P-51s at Mach 3 (They were at 3,000, and I dove from 16,000!) and shot em down. Pure bliss.
