On the cable music channel that does soundtracks, they like to play the theme from Airplane!. I pften wonder if they told Elmer Bernstein that the film was a comedy? (and not just any comedy!) ---

You’d think Laine would’ve been able to tell, just from the title. A saddle is something to rest your bottom on, not something that usually blazes. ---

SLR’s came on quite strong post-World War II. My father used a Leica, then a Nikkormat 35mm SLR as a news photographer. While there were some who held onto their old bodies, the larger lenses/ better optics of the newer SLRs coupled with through-the-lens viewing/focusing/ metering made the transition a must for most professionals. It’s an amusing nod to the old cliché view of reporters but had little connection to reality by the late 1970’s. ( On the other hand, many women whose husbands worked long hours found solace in the arms…er…legs of equine friends…) ---
