You’ve obviously never met my mother. You give her an unfamiliar mechanical device, and she’ll stare at it, totally perplexed, maybe smack it or shake it, but mostly, she won’t have a clue what to do. I never understood this about her - she’s actually quite intelligent, but unfamiliar devices reduce her to an ape-like state of beating stuff with a rock.

But she does know how to operate an airline seatbelt, having flown a few times in her life.

And as for the OP - the safety announcements are such a small part of the flight, whether they’re dry, clever, or insipid, they’re over in a minute or two, so who cares? Personally, I enjoy the unconventional approach.

If you fly a lot internationally, they do the briefings in more than one language, so it can drag on for quite a while.

> Not quite humor, but I was once on a small regional jet on a Sunday night flight with only three passengers, obviously all seasoned business travelers.

> The stewardess gets up and starts her safety briefing, and the three of us each roll one eye up from what we are reading to look at her. She looks at us, stops for a second, and says: “You all know this stuff.” and sits down.

Couldn’t she get in legal trouble?
