And yes, knowing the basics IS necessary to actually debate stuff like this, since knowing why and how things got where they are today is essential to meaningful dialogue. You are debating on a subject that you don’t even have a basic understanding of the history and making assertions based on your faulty understanding…and then you get tense when people point this out. Clearly you’re wrong.
