# Akira and Wish You Were Here

Okay, I was just in the archives and was re-reading the one about Pink Floyd’s _Dark Side of the Moon_ synching up with the movie _The Wizard of Oz_. Having had a lot of time on my hands during college, I can verify that this kinda works. A little. Anyway, at the end of the article, it is mentioned that another Floyd album (_Wish You Were Here_) synchs up to another movie (_Akira_. Now, while I own Akira (fine japanese animation for those not in the know), I don’t happen to own a copy of the previously mentioned Floyd album. Can anyone else corroborate this?

Yes, I looked through your entire record collection while you were unconscious in the ice-filled bathtub, and it’s true, you don’t own a copy of _Wish You Were Here_.

I think that almost any movie will match almost any music CD with a variety of types of songs. It’s the human instinct to find patterns, this is why people see things in inkblots. If the song matches the movie scene, you leap in the air and say, “Wow!” If the song doesn’t quite match, you say, “Ah, look at the deliberate contrast between the happy laughing characters and the sad music, foreshadowing what is to come.”

Remember that you don’t need 100% synch. You just needs lots and lots of little points that seem to match: the bad guy is sneaking up on the heroine and Doris Day starts singing “Que Sera Sera.” etc.
