Roy Moore is the judge who put the Ten Commandments up in his courtroom, and also had specifically Christian prayer at the beginning of his session every morning.
He was recently elected Chief Justice of the state Supreme Court. :mad: One of the first things he did was erect an enormous Ten Commandments plaque in front of the SC building in Montgomery.

I moved my Yankee ass down here to Alabama 6 years ago. I like it, it’s a nice place to live. Of course, I’m also in the somewhat progressive-thinking Huntsville area. Hell, it was one of the few places in the state where they voted in favor of a lottery.
It really pains me to see shit like this happen in the beginnings of the 21st century. I’m certainly not surprised, judging by the vast numbers of those fucking car emblems that have the “truth” fish eating the Darwin fish.
Alabama’s position on evolution is a good argument against evolution itself.
All I can say is that I’m glad I don’t have kids if this is what gets taught in school.

Is there a chance that the Board of Ediots who pushed this through could suffer the same fate as the anti-evolution crusaders [in Kansas](http://www.cnn.com/2001/US/02/14/kansas.evolution.02/)?
“At a 1995 board meeting to approve the original disclaimer, then-Gov. Fob James _impersonated an ape_ to poke fun at Charles Darwin, whose works are the basis of evolutionary theory.”
This couldn’t have required much effort on Fob James’ part.

For some strange reason, this thread has stirred the fond memory of Steve Windham pissing in a jug behind a podium during a filibuster in the Alabama State Senate.

Well, Dopers, what are you all going to do about the apathy of “Evolutionists=God Haters”, besides mock those who have this view? It might be silly notion to you, but it is a serious enough notion for many of the faithful to reject the theory out of hand. I ought to know, I used to have this view as well. Mocking does not work, never work, when it comes to changing minds.
Alabama could buy newer textbooks that discarded the old theories for newer, better ones, instead of wasting money slapping on stickers.
Oh, BTW, fundamentalist Christians are not even the most virulent opponents of the theories of evolution. Many Muslims are much, much more apathetic to the theories of evolution, it being a Western ‘secular’ idea being another reason alongside that “Evolution=Atheism” notion.
