I think it was as much a sendup of Tori’s cover of \*Smells Like Teen Spirit \* as it was of _My Humps_. _SLTS_ was the first thing I thought of when I watched this- same sort of haunting melody, slowed way down, very self-important and overly serious. It was pretty much a template for this. ---

I’m watching Alanis’ video now. It’s great! I didn’t think she had that good of a sense of humor. I definitely prefer it, especially because it doesn’t have that catchy tune that Fergie’s version does that gets stuck in your head and even when you realize in horror that you’re singing “My humps” you still can’t get it out of your head. ---

I definitely disagree. MOST people wouldn’t, but believe it or not, there are some people in the world who just have unusually sweaty crotches. I would know… I’ve washed their pants. Besides, if she’d peed herself, it would’ve probably spread fairly quickly and half the damn audience would’ve noticed at once, whereas sweat would leak through over time. And a pee spot would’ve been a lot bigger. ---

I read it in a magazine so I’ve got no links, but she claimed that she had drunk a whole heap just before going onstage then just got “So pumped a little just leaked out” On preview - [not quite](http://www.teenhollywood.com/d/145699/3000/fergie-admits-embarrassment-at-pee-incident.html) the same quote, but still. I have loathed the dumbed down “thug homie” culture since Marky Mark showed his boxers back in the early 90’s. It was refreshing to see Alanis skewer “My Humps” like she did. [/QUOTE] Haven’t seen or heard the original or cover of _My Humps_, but you can be deliberately sexy and a parody at the same time, for instance, when Natalie Merchant wore a little red thing in her SNL performance where the Maniacs did “Candy Everybody Wants,” a song about contentless TV with just sex and violence. It was simultaneously parodic and sexier than usual for Merchant. ---

So… I guess I’m the only one who liked the original song more than the cover, huh? Mind you, I didn’t like either video, I tend to dislike most BEP videos, except for the one about the dating show. For what it’s worth, Weird Al sings “You Oughta Know” far better than either Alanis Morrissete or Richard Cheese does, but he only sings a couple lines of it.
