Alaska: how far north can I drive?

I had another thought for a nice side trip, if you have the time. There is a road that goes to McCarthy/Kennicott. You’d have to go from Tok to Glennallen and pick up the Edgerton Highway which connects to the McCarthy Road. Kennicott is a ghost town now, and a tourist site. It’s where the Kennicott Mine is located at the head of the Copper River, where tons of copper ore was taken out. There’s also Kennicott Glacier there. Interesting place. McCarthy is still lightly populated with a small group there year-round. While there, you can likely rent a pilot and plane (like we did) to fly down the Copper River towards Cordova and see the Million Dollar Bridge from the air. It’s a beautiful flight down one of the last wild rivers in the country. On the way back, the pilot will take you over the glacier and along the mountains where you can see the old mine works/shacks. Again, it’s a dirt road from about Chitina onward, but not all that bad. Man, I miss that country.
