I have read some stuff on this. While indeed, overfishing is the main cause of the overall decline, this recent rapid disappearance may be related to Global Warming.
And, if they hook up with the humongous giant clams, that have grown feet and become intelligent, then we are in for a world of hurt.
Looks like this is indeed the culprit:

Well, it’s nice to be right at least once. ![]()
Pick something different to be right about because this one sucks.
I remember seeing an interview with a Japanese fishmonger, well, some dude who bought tuna for fancy sushi restaurants, and even he said people would probably have to stop eating tuna for a bit before the population was completed depleted. And this was years ago.
This is terrible news. Another potential extinction is upon us.
My understanding is that tuna is also endangered, but more from overfishing than from climate change. It’s a delicious fish in many different forms, from everyday tuna salad to the finest otoro sushi, so it’s much (too much) in demand.
Because this is such a funny subject!
Laugh or cry, dude. Laugh or cry.
I’m not ready to start laughing about species going extinct. Hope I never get to that point.
The inappropriate joke writes itself, but I won’t.
Well, I am Doctor Deth.
Many species of tuna, but the pacific bluefin tuna is Near Threatened. The big ones are almost all gone.
While I would never minimize the problem of overfishing, turns out my understanding is slightly wrong. Yes, Pacific bluefin tuna is considered “near threatened”, but that’s still above “vulnerable” (bigeye tuna) and “endangered” (southern bluefin). Other species of tuna are doing relatively well, including Atlantic bluefin. Probably not a coincidence that the most threatened species are the ones considered best for sushi.
Winter is coming for the snow crabs.
Too soon.
If the crab fisheries close just think of all the jobs that would be lost…at the Discovery Channel.
The Alaskans should have been out there in boats playing “Bullet with Butterfly Wings” at full volume.
Maybe in 60 million years?
Dude! Too soon.
