The word was “ consult,” not “ consent.”

The phrase ‘buy in’ means something more than consult.
I have their buy in equals I have their consent. They have agreed.
I have their buy in does not equal I have consulted them.

The phrase “buy in” is not legal language. Consultation is. You really need to look a little deeper.

Consultation is one of the steps necessary for a province to even consider separation. Danielle has not consulted with the First Nations. It’s going to be important if Danielle wants access to resources and anything else that’s on Treaty Land.

Given their history, I doubt that Alberta separatists will have the slightest concern for legalities, since they never have yet. And, hypothetically, if they do declare Alberta an independent state (won’t happen, but just hypothetically) it would be ruled by their troglodyte ethos including the principles of white supremacy and maximum fossil fuel extraction with reckless disregard for the environment, so treaties with First Nations peoples will be deemed worthless. It will be a redneck Nirvana!

She isn’t required to, according to the Supreme Court of Canada, until after a successful referendum. Too bad the liberal appointed judge didn’t take that into consideration.

> It’s going to be important if Danielle wants access to resources and anything else that’s on Treaty Land.

Maybe read a treaty as to what treaty land actually is. Hint: it isn’t crown land. That is completely Alberta’s. It was ceded permanently.

“Completely?” First Nations retain legal rights promised in the treaties. Governments must consult Indigenous groups and respect these rights before using or changing public Crown lands. When a First Nation signs a historic or modern treaty, they agree to “cede” or surrender their broad Aboriginal title to the Crown. In exchange, the government provides specific benefits, such as reserve lands, annual payments, and guaranteed hunting or fishing rights.

At least try to get your facts straight and acknowledge that in an Alberta ruled by a separatist faction as currently constituted, white supremacy and maximum fossil fuel extraction with reckless disregard for the environment will be the order of the day – it could hardly be more clear – so treaties with First Nations peoples will be deemed worthless.

One can only imagine the decisions that would be made if a major oil reserve is found on First Nations land, or there’s a perceived need for a hazardous pipeline through their unspoiled territory. I’m sure their rights would be highly respected! Yeah, every bit as much as Alberta separatist lunatics respect the rights of Canadians to the integrity of their country!
🙄

Well wolfpup I think you are correct.

Here is an example of one of the separatists, the leader if the Global News headline is correct, being sued for $109 million for being in default of a debt agreement - i.e. has refused to pay what is owed. He is also being sued by the First Nations for misappropriation of tens of millions of dollars from a trust fund.

Obviously, Jeffery Rath is not concerned with legalities if it involves money.

Alberta should declare independence from United States to avoid this sort of exploitative colonialism.

Long time conservative riding goes to the Alberta NDP in a byelection.

The only way to claw normalcy back into Alberta provincial politics is if the centre-right population finally punishes Smith and the UCP for totally surrendering daily governance to its destructive and chaotic extremist right-wing.

The Albertan population needs to honestly understand and evaluate if they want monthly constitutional crises aired in national and international headlines. All for no possible public gain.

TLDR, looking at whether “Alberta” wins or loses depends on whether you look at Alberta workers or very rich Albertans and the oil companies.

One of the more stupid articles that has been disproven previously.

Yes everyone pays taxes. High wage earners pay higher taxes. Taxes go to Ottawa who distribute them as they see fit to where they can buy the most votes. All thing being equal, those taxes in a separate Alberta would go to Edmonton and be distributed where they can buy the most votes, but at least within Alberta. As the gdp per capita is higher in Alberta (dammed evil foreign companies for paying our workers more and driving up wages across the board ), then the Alberta government will have a windfall that could be used to provide more services, or, heaven forbid, lower taxes.

The key is that Albertans decide, not Ottawa. They won’t even allow us to elect our own senators.

Re. Rant about foreign owners in the oil industry. 36-\>70% is foreign owned. 100% of the auto industry is foreign owned. When is Chinada nationalizing that so we can make the Canadian Lada for reselling nowhere?
