Last Sunday, I was on a downer for reasons I shan’t bore you with here. I decided to put on _The Beach Boys_’ **Friends** album thinking it would cheer me up a bit. It did. Great album. I am wondering what albums other Dopers turn to in this situation. ---

For some reason REM’s Life’s Rich Pageant makes me feel like a superhero. So that’s always a good choice. Or some of the sillier stuff by The Clash. ---

Either _Scumdogs of the Universe_ or _Ragnarok_ by GWAR. Songs like _Sick Of You_ and _Knife In Yer Guts_ turn a simple bad mood into righteous anger, which I can turn into simple contentedness in reverie. If that fails, the soundtrack to _Katamari Damacy_ works. ---

I always put on some **Me First And The Gimme Gimmes**. Some cheesy punk covers of songs ranging from 60’s classics to showtunes. Always good for a laugh. ---

I enjoy when I pull up to an intersection and I’ve got AC/DC rocking on my stereo, and the car on one side with the young men in their late teens is pissed off because some “old woman” is blaring her old music and they can’t hear their hip hop, and the car on the other side with the old couple is pissed off because I’m an inconsiderate “youngster” with my noisy rock music blaring. Nothing cheers me up like pissing off two different generations with the same music! ---

**Franz Ferdinand** makes me happy. But if I’m in a really, really bad mood then nothing usually breaks the funk like **Rammstein**. Something about german heavy metal is brilliant for spitting out all the aggression, and when it’s over I generally feel great. ---

Oddly enough, if I’m feeling angsty or depressed I need to listen to something angsty or depressing to make me feel better, rather than something cheery. So **Alanis Moristte** screeching like a banshee on _Jagged Little Pill_ always helps me get rid of stress, and listening to **The Whitlams** sing tales of depression and suicide on _Eternal Nightcap_ feels like a great emotional purge. Another great song for this is “Just” by **Radiohead**. _You do it to yourself, you do, and that’s why it really hurts. You do it to yourself, you do, just you and no-one else._ Just bitter enough to make you feel great.
