Female here with loooong drinking experience. I like beer and wine. I’m not fussy. I like Guiness, and I love pinot grigio or reisling. Mixed drinks just don’t do it for me and often give me a headache. I went to a party where we all did shots of icy vodka. Wow! Ice cold electric blue fireworks explosions in my head, woooooh! Best 15 minutes I spent all week! The next 15 hours, however, were the worst 15 hours of all year. Not doing that again…I lunch with some women who always order themselves a couple of bloody marys, never anything else. So if you get beer and hard likker, please get a bottle of something white and girly for me! 😉 ---

I like beer; these days I prefer craft beers over the mass-produced stuff. For hard liquor, I’m just a whisky drinker, scotch or bourbon, straight. I don’t care for other hard liquors. ---

Glad you made it multiple choice. Disappointed not a public poll. At a dinner party, I like to see wine or beer for the dinner (either or both – I think having a choice is pretty snazzy), and some liquor afterwards or before (preferably both). At a non-fancy, regular dinner, table wine is fine – pour it into a pitcher or decanter and have lots of it on the table, for everyone to help themselves. Mixed drinks – the kind that are pre-mixed by the host or hostess served in a big pitcher or something – are bullshit. I like to pour my own drinks or watch it being poured – that way I know how much liquor I’m drinking and not get screwed out of a decent-sized amount by some scrooge. Just a party-party, maybe some snacks, bullshitting, listening to music, all that? Beer’s standard, but wine is good too – probably both would be ideal. I wouldn’t complain if there weren’t any liquor – if I really wanted to get schmasted I’d just bring a pint or two of whiskey along. Pro-tip – beer? Get some of the classy expensive shit, because it’s better, but also have lots of reserves of cheap stuff in tallboy cans. Estimate six drinks per person, then double it, and stretch your money by having the cheap stuff just in case it turns into a _Cannery Row_ style party. Same thing with wine. If you like good stuff and are trying to impress people, get it, but have some cheap plonk around too. DON’T RUN OUT OF BEER/WINE AT A PARTY OR EVER. ---

For parties, toss mixed cocktails out as an option. Too much trouble. Stick with a couple of beers - macro, micro and local. Red wine for people who know wine, white for people who don’t and chicks ( 😛 ) and maybe a punch if you feel particularly festive. Let the serious drinkers go to a bar. Parties should stay lively. ---

Good movie reference. What was that line? “At four thirty the police found their car on the beach” or something. I’m guessing it wasn’t this guy’s advice on parties that got him banned, but I’m fer this idea of not running out of soft drinks like beer and wine. Surprised so many people really insist on liquor, though. I think it’s great for a dinner party – cocktails, something after dinner. But IMHO too many people aren’t experienced enough to know they’re obnoxious until it’s too late. ---

At a party, I usually prefer beer because then I can more easily pace myself. If I am not driving, bring on the vodka cranberries and/or Crown and cokes. Not huge into wine. I prefer cheaper whites/blushes and do love champagne, but they tend to stir up my migraines sometimes if I am not careful. Don’t drink anything straight really. Female here. ---

My go-to’s: Jack Daniel’s and dark rum for sipping on the rocks. Single-malt scotch (preferably Glenfiddich) for sipping neat. White and gold rum for mixed drinks (Mojitos, Cuba Libres). Blended scotch and Drambuie for making Rusty Nails. Bourbon for making Mint Juleps. Southern Comfort for sipping on the rocks (yum!). Imported beer (preferably Carlsberg or Stella Artois). I’m not a wine connoissieur, but I do tend to favor Italian wines, both red and white. ---

Now that I think about it, Jack Daniel’s should also be sipped neat, as should Wild Turkey. Jim Beam or Rebel Yell should, IMHO, be sipped on the rocks.
