# Alexander, Revisited

Has anybody seen this movie? I have not seen either of the other versions of _Alexander_, but I have heard they are awful. If you have seen _Alexander, Revisited_, is it any good? What about the other versions? Are they as terrible as people say?

I dunno, is this finally the one where they put in the supposed kiss between Colin Farrell and Jared Leto? I already saw this movie in theaters, the only way I’m going to watch it again is if I get my kissy-kissy.

I watched the version on Blu ray.
Hmm, it was ok. But, it was so disjointed. Moved back and forth between different parts of Alexander’s life.
I’d say it is worth a rental, but I’m sure I wouldn’t buy it.

Alexander is the worst movie I’ve ever seen by a long shot, and that is a huge accomplishment because I love just about any historical epic. I remember when the movie came out and Oliver Stone blamed the movie’s poor showing on America’s inability to deal with the homosexual aspects. Uhh, no Oliver the movie was just atrocious.

It’s slightly more historically accurate than the anime of Alexander’s life, Reign.

I remember he actually got flustered on an interview show when asked why gay people didn’t like it either. From Val Kilmer as Alley Oop to Angelina Jolie as Meryl Streep’s Eastern Europe character number 4 to the constant flashbacks, it was just Calvinist non-elect and damned from conception.
Speaking of military costume-drama epic director’s cuts, I _did_ just see _Kingdom of Heaven: the Director’s Cut_ and it’s well worth a look if you liked the original at all. The 45 minutes of cut footage adds a LOT to character development, including why the priest in the beginning hated Balian so and why a blacksmith knew so much about siege towers and a sideplot about Sybilla’s son (stricken from the theater version) that added new levels- it’s not just a “slap on an alternate ending and extended scene here and there and call it a director’s remix”. (The historically accuracy isn’t improved much, but then it’s not a documentary, and as historical melodrama with not so subtle modern day analogies it works.)
