A new season of ALIAS starts tonight. Anyone staying the course with me? IIRC, when we left off last season, Nadia was a zombie, Vaughn had just said he wasn’t Vaughn and Sydney and Vaughn were in a ginormous car crash. ---

My expectations have been properly lowered. I plan to watch solely because Victor Garber is, like, soooo cute!!!11!! I’m ready for anything, and fear I will get it. ---

Best. Cliffhanger. Ever. Well, second best, but because it’s not “You’ve been missing for two years.” Right now, I’m about where I was on Enterprise a year ago. Figuring this was the last season and being glad of that, because while I didn’t dislike watching the show, I was mostly watching for what it had been. Of course, by the end of Enterprise’s last season, I wished it could go on for another year, so maybe Alias will have a creative renaissance as well. I doubt it, but who knows? –Cliffy ---

Fuckers. Vaughn-killing fuckers. I knew he was gonna be off the show because I knew Vartan had wrapped his part, but I didn’t know it was gonna be death and I didn’t know it was gonna be in the first episode. Fuckers. ---

Well, they had to do something big (the resolution to the cliffhanger was kind of ho-hum… oh, he’s trying to find out this plan his dad was working on). Killing off Vaughn was something big. ---

I don’t trust the jerks to let him be dead. There were entirely too many glances between Jack and Sydney, long lingering significiant ones. Something’s up. I only started watching last season so I have no emotional investment in this show; just wanna see how they bring ‘Andre’ back. And what kind of Grandpa Jack will make. ---

I was rather surprised - I hadn’t been keeping up on the gossip. I must admit I was rather “meh” - I’ll have to see if he stays dead. I sure did miss the show over the summer though. ---

I’m watching Survivor and missing Alias. I take it Vaughn’s supposedly dead. Did he die in the car crash? Anything else of note happen this episode? ---

Vaughn and Sydney both survived the car crash. The “ambulence crew” that showed up to pull them out were actually there to take Vaughn (which they did) and kill Syd (which they didn’t). Vaughn was killed by someone who had formerly been some sort of special government investigator but had been off the grid for the last two years. Turns out Vaughn’s real name was Andre Micheaux, his father had been involved in code-breaking some 15th Century manuscript (not, apparently, written by Rimbaldi; super-geniuses 500 years ahead of their times were apparently thick on the ground in the 15th Century) and had changed his and Michael’s identities when Michael was a baby. Speaking of babies, Sydney’s pregnant. And what do you mean, “anything else of note”? A main character who’s been on the show since episode one was killed, what else of note needs to happen? ---

I just meant I don’t think Vaughn’s really dead. I’d heard that he was going to be written out, but tonight I saw an interview with her where she said he wasn’t. I can believe that she’d demand that he leave the show, which I’d heard she did because he wasn’t taking the breakup very well and it felt awkward for her. But I think it’s pretty shitty. That combined with her newly plumped upper lip and her marraige to Ben Assfleck has made me lose respect for her. She’s not even number one on my “if I were gay” list anymore. Angelina has usurped that position. ---

I wasn’t going to watch the premiere since I haven’t seen any of season 4 yet, except for two episodes they’ve shown this week. But I moused over **Otto** ’s OP and that spoiled the ending of season 4, so I figured what the hell. I was thinking that since the coffin was closed, and since it was all CIA agents who were pallbearers, that he wasn’t really dead and he’d show up again. But then I thought that they made a point of showing him get shot like a billion times. And then I thought that they didn’t show him actually dead until after Jack showed up, and Sydney and he were exchanging more knowing glances than grief, so maybe they had hatched a scheme. But then I thought that they didn’t show him actually die until after he told Sydney he loved her and they decided on a baby name, which is TV language for being really dead. Then I realized that I really don’t care much one way or the other. I’ve always had pretty much the same opinion of Vaughn as Jack has – I don’t like him, but he’s useful every once in a while, and he makes Sydney happy. So whether he’s dead or a zombie or alive or in hiding or cloned or duplicated or really a quadruple agent, whatever. The trick to this show is that you never, ever, actually ask yourself what’s going on and if it makes sense. I just hope they actually shaved him for the funeral, for once. ---

I’m trying to figure out why I don’t care. I mean last season, I was an obsessive Alias fan (and most of the seasons before it) and I completely enjoyed nearly every episode. Alias and 24, that’s all i wanted to watch on TV. As I watched the premier, I saw nothing that I cared for. I didn’t like the _Bourne Identity_ camera style, I didn’t like the plot (has it finally reached a state of convolution that even I can’t handle? I had always hoped that they had things planned from the beginning, but I’m beginning to think they’re making more and more of it up as they go along), and I didn’t like the interplay between the characters. Well, there was virtually none of that, was there? Maybe that was my problem. I haven’t been listening to any rumors… Vaughn was supposed to die because he and his ex couldn’t handle the on-screen romance? I can kinda understand that, but still. I do have to say, though… so much for all the “Vaughn is really Rambaldi” theories 😃 ---
