> Arghh what is the source of these damn fruit flies? Or maybe drain flies, I really can’t tell the difference. But I have scoured the kitchen and dining room for escaped produce or open juice, and bleached and snaked every drain. But every night before bed, the glow of my laptop attracts at least one tiny little fucking fly.

No freaking clue, but I hosed down the window screens, draperies and all the trash and garbage cans in the house, and that seems to have nipped it in the bud here. I think htey are gnats, not fruit flies anyhow.

This is so adorable and so accurate.

As one of my high school teachers said to me once when I was describing something my (very large) dog had done: “To you, it’s a sweet little paw… to everyone else, it’s a furry club with spikes on the end.”

The last time I had something similar happen it turned out to be a handful of [parsons spiders](https://www.insectidentification.org/insect-description.asp?identification=Parson-Spider) (warning, large spider photo) under mine. Once I relocated them outside, I stopped waking up with welts.

> The one time I saw these particular spiders before I looked for them, one ran across my forearm and bit me three times in quick succession, which sounds like what happened to your jaw…

Heh, I’ve never heard of them before.

I’m the only one affected, though. My husband’s fine. The dogs are fine. The bedroom (including under the bed and baseboards) has been vacuumed.

I’m still getting them, except now it’s caused a kind of rash from my jawline to cheek. I have a mild case of rosacea, but never like this. Oh, and those neck welts? They’re still there.

You should be able to set up a filter to auto-delete them. Grab one of the email addresses that are always in there and whack them.

not really a rant, one of my coworkers hit my car while we were on the way to work. My car is 10 years old and several parts are damaged, bumper, bumper support, the side part next to the bumper and the underlying structure that covers are crunched, back hatch is dented and scraped. I am really worried that they will total out my car The blue book value is around $1000.00, replacement of the same make and model is about $6000.00. I don’t know how this works… If they total it and give $1000.00 I will be sick. I can’t really afford another car right now and $1000.00 won’t buy me much of anything much less something comparable. ☹

The dogs got into my library this morning and tore up a couple of my Stephen King books beyond salvage. I’m lucky it was those, and not something irreplaceable, but I’m still not very happy about it.

This would bring their grand total of destruction to 4 books, the blender lid, a remote control, a steak, a bar of soap, a T-shirt, various pieces of cardboard, some plastic water bottles, at least six partial loaves of bread… now, the onions, they just got scattered all round the house.

Oh! Also some noodles. And they ate some cat turds.

I’ve never had chicken pox.

They seem to pop up randomly, Outside of what I’ve already described I’ve got a couple on my leg and one on my inner forearm. It’s getting annoying.

And yes, I will go to the doctor if it keeps up. Right now I’m thinking allergy to something, but what that could be, I have no idea. Ditto the randomness. If they are some kind of bite, then what kind and why am I the only one in the household with them?

Have you changed laundry detergent lately? Did you use a new kind of dryer sheet? Do they mostly crop up when you are in bed? How about soap? (I have a million allergies so I could offer suggestions all day long.) Good luck figuring it out or finding a good doctor.

I might have some advice about that. Insurance claim adjustors will always do the cheapest thing possible and if the blue book says a thousand, that is what they will offer. The damage was not your fault and they are required to “make you whole”, meaning that if you argue that your car is actually worth 6 grand and can offer up documentation to show that, they will move the dollar amount up. For example, was the oil changed on schedule? Bring in verification. Was all of the normal maintenance done? Bring in verification. New tires? Bring in…

Come in with a plan, if you can come in with a real number for a replacement car, bring all that stuff in with you. They aren’t going to get you a nicer car, but if you are prepared, you can probably get an amount somewhat close to what you need to buy a replacement.

I hate \*hate \*\*\*\*hate \*\*\*overly scented products. The fakey smells are unpleasant at best and give me a headache at worst. Ergo, I buy unscented as much as is possible.

My inlaws, on the other hand, use a dryer sheet (I don’t know which brand) which permeates fabric and won’t fade willingly. They live 800 miles away and normally it’s not an issue, but last week, my husband went to stay with them when his dad had surgery. His mother kindly did his laundry. And the clothes he took with him reek! I just loaded the washer with jeans, and the fakey “fresh scent” is overpowering. I’ll be hanging everything on the lines today and I hope it will de-stinkify the garments.

My big concern is that on Oct 19, we leave for a 9-day cruise in a tiny interior cabin. Between now and then, I have to wash everything his mother washed or sniff his clothes as he packs them so I don’t have to deal with the stink in a small, enclosed space.

Dear Product Manufacturers:

That smell is NOT April Fresh.

That smell is NOT Mountain Breeze.

That smell is NOT Fresh Linen.

Please stop!

GAH - why must everything be scented? STOP IT!!!

You have my sympathy, **FCM**. There’s a product which advertises that if you put it in the wash it will keep things stinking (they call it “scented”) for 12 weeks or some such. Gives me the shudders every time I see that ad.

Ugh, back when we were having our kitchen floor replaced, I lived in a local hotel for a few weeks. Somebody in the laundry area must’ve used one of those products because the scent reeked _everywhere_, from the laundry room down the hallway to the front desk. My room was at the other end, so I only got the faintest whiff. I felt sorry for the people on the other end.

I may take you up on this with a PM.

No change in detergent. Don’t use dryer sheets (I almost added something about those in response to **FCM** but never mind). I woke up with the welts on my jawline and neck. They’ve gotten bigger, redder, and itchier and are irritated by almost everything, even my hair, which reminds me…no change in shampoo.

The other welts on my chest and arms aren’t many but they seem to be going the same way as the others. I seem to be getting those during the day. No dirty/new clothes (I wash everything before wearing them).

We have two dogs, both of whom are on rather hefty flea/tick medicine (my older one has advanced Lyme that’s affecting his locomotion). The other one is our recent rescue…and I thought of that but she’s not scratching and she got a clean bill of health at the vet’s.

I’ve stripped our bed and washed all the bedding in hot water. Vacuumed behind and under.

My husband thinks it could be medical. As I said, I’m the only one in the household with all this stuff.

Missed the edit window. Finally figured it out : my herpes simplex is following the lymph nodes. This would make sense because I have a history of them migrating past my lips. At least they’re not in my nose like the last time.
