> I didn’t realize there were 19 flavors. I’m not even sure what some of them are. How many have you tried? I’ve only tried 6. Poll to follow!

I’ve got you beat with 7! Classic, low sodium, Lite, Turkey, Bacon, Chorizo, and spread. I haven’t seen the spread since grade school. It was called Deviled Spam and came in little round cans. It looked and smelled like cat food but it was great on Ritz Crackers.

I’ve only had the original, having first tried it recently in the form of spam musubi. I was really surprised by how good it is. I’d like to try all of these varieties now.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen Spam Spread, but the description definitely reminded me of deviled ham (my favorite sandwich interior when I was a kid).

Ok, the double post of this is genius. Hats off! (Even if it really had to do with hamster glitches, in which case, just smile and pretend 😃 )

Not sure eating Spam actually disqualifies you as a vegetarian. I know they SAY it’s meat, but … :dubious:

It’s at least “meat-adjacent”. It’s not entirely different from [Potted Meat](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Potted_meat_food_product) or [Scrapple](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scrapple).

In addition to the handful of flavors I’ve eaten, I’ve also picked up SPAM made for the Japanese market and for the Arabic-speaking parts of the world. It was just the “regular” SPAM, but the text on the tins was in Japanese and Arabic, respectively. The Japanese spam pictured SPAM sushi, and the Arabic SPAM included a note that said, “not for muslims”.

Spam sushi (technically, [Spam musubi](https://www.spam.com/recipes/spam-musubi)) is huge in Hawaii – for that matter, Spam is just huge in Hawaii, period (that’s where I also saw the Spam macadamia nuts). When I visited there a few years ago, I was amused to find that the local 7-Elevens prominently featured Spam musubi for sale.

My niece has been a Hello Kitty fan since she was a little girl; a couple of years ago, I gave her a [Hello Kitty Spam Musubi](https://www.hormelfoods.com/newsroom/company-news/hello-kitty-spam-kit-back-make-precooked-meat-look-better-ever/) Kit for her birthday; she was both amused and disgusted. 😃

The only spam I’ve had is the electronic version. Fried spam sounds OK. I like a nice piece of fried ham, so I sort of picture it like that, but it may be a bit of a reach.

Here’s [a segment from CBS _Sunday Morning_ about Spam](https://www.cbsnews.com/news/spam-spam-spam-spam-lovely-spam-spam/), featuring one of my favorite musicians, Todd Rundgren. He and his wife Michele own _Tiki Iniki_ on Kauai where one of the featured dishes is a hamburger that is a mix of ground beef and Spam. For all the crap people give it, Spam is mostly ground pork shoulder. From the article:

Spam has even entered the kitchens of the touristy restaurants, like Tiki Iniki in Princeville, where ordering the Spam Burger has become as daring as the owner’s blue hairdo.

Cowan asked, “So what do the tourists think?”

Michele Rundgren replied, “Most people say that’s the best burger they’ve ever had. Or, ‘Oh my God, it was good! It was amazing!’”

“Well, the cocktails have a lot to do with it as well!” laughed her husband, music legend Todd Rundgren. (Remember, “Hello It’s Me?”) Mixing Spam with ground beef was his idea.

Rungren says he wrote that – and plenty of others – while eating plenty of Spam.

“He has been eating Spam since he was little,” said Michele.

"Really? It’s no worse than a hot dog . . . " said Cowan.

“No, it’s way better than a hot dog!” said Todd. “It doesn’t have any snouts or anuses in it!”

“Dude! You can’t say that on TV!” said Michele.
