# all these people attacking Rush Limbaugh...

As far as I’m concerned, Limbaugh’s own name has become its own insult, much like the name of Quisling or de Sade. To mention that he’s fat neither adds nor detracts anymore than a reference to Benjamin Franklin’s chubbiness would add or detract from that great man.

Except for occasional excerpts on _The Daily Show_, the only “research” I’ve ever done on Limbaugh was catching one episode in the 1990’s via accidental surfing. I’ve never forgotten the theme of that episode however. Limbaugh had an unflattering photo of Cabinet Secretary Donna Shalala; he turned the camera on it every few minutes with a smirk that seemed to say “She’s even uglier than me; that proves liberals is stoopid.”

Rush Limbaugh is fetid pustulence in human form. To call him anything else – fat, thin, smart, stupid – should be viewed, relatively, only as a compliment.

Every so often, when really bored, I listen to Rush, with a timer at hand. I time exactly how long it takes, from the random point where I tune in to his show, before he utters a “straw man” declaration. Specifically, how long until he tells his audience what someone else “really thinks,” or “what they really want,” etc.

(e.g., liberals don’t want blacks to achieve economic success; they really want blacks dependent and beholden.)

It rarely takes more than one minute.

The guy is a one-trick pony, and that one trick is the straw man attack.

That said…I think Al Franken should not have used the word “fat” in “Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot.” It’s irrelevant. Rush Limbaugh is a Grotesque Reeking Idiot.

(I like the way **septimus** puts it: in the context of Rush’s countless sins, “fat” is a compliment.)

This is exactly what I came in here to post, and I just wanted to say that I love that Mitchell said it straight to the _Would I Lie to You_ host (Angus Deyton, who was pretty much constantly making low-hanging-fruit cracks about celebrities – well, he and/or his writers, since he’s obviously reading from the teleprompter; however, I notice that replacement host Rob Bryden rarely make similar comments). Um, anyway, it’s another reason to adore David Mitchell. And it’s awesome that you posted it.

Anyway, whether the OP was being straight-faced or just using his post as another way to get some more fat jokes in, I agree with the premise. Of all the things to bitch about Rush Limbaugh about, his looks and/or weight are soooo far down on the list. OTOH, I admit it’s appropriate to call him on his hypocrisy if he has indeed been commenting on others’ weight–boy, you’d think he’d have enough self-awareness\* to avoid that hot potato. Not to mention that it’s lazy. I mean, I’m on completely the opposite end of the political spectrum from this schmuck and even _I_ can come up with insults regarding policy or beliefs or actions related to fellow Democrats that don’t rely on shallow garbage like this.

- hahahahahahahaha I crack myself up. A blowhard asshat with self-awareness? Do any such creatures exist?

Ditto. At first I wasn’t keen on Bryden’s inserting his impressions shtick quite as often as he was, and he does mug to the camera a lot, but I just find Bryden such a likeable personality that it’s hard to get irritated with him. Plus he has a lot of credit with me after watching his performance in _Marion and Geoff_. Deyton was far more mean-spirited, and all in all the show is such a witty, pleasant show that the mean-spirited stuff really didn’t mesh with the feel. On _Have I Got News for You_, yeah, I can see that humor working. On _Would I Lie to You_, it felt out of place.

I’'ll skip past the middle “Double Ditto” ground and go straight to Triple Ditto. I have to admit when I first started watching clips I was annoyed with how rude Lee Mack was to Mitchell, but now I see there’s a lot of mutual ribbing and besides, much of the time I suspect Mack is (rather generously) setting the stage for one of Mitchell’s always-enjoyable-rants.

Wow, could this topic be more off? Sorry again. Back to the Rush-hating.
