> A friend of mine claimed that he heard George Harrison’s “My Sweet Lord” on a Christian radio station. Somehow I think that was a case of just looking at the title, and not an attempt at interfaith with the Hare Krishnas.

I once heard a Christian station play “Time Has Come Today” by the Chambers Brothers. I’m not sure about what being homeless and having your soul become psychedelicized has to do with Jesus, but apparently it worked for them.

> While the lyrics are rather vague, they’re basically about a woman named Annie who has been “struck down” by a man who came into her apartment through the window and left “bloodstains on the carpet”. Even assuming Annie is just badly hurt and not dead, I’m guessing Mr Smooth Criminal isn’t exactly the kind of guy she’d like to bring to mom and dad’s for Sunday dinner.

> Not exactly a song built for romance… know what I mean?

ah strip bars, the last great refuge for _romance_

Make that +1 more. Creepiest song ever.

If church had alot more music like that it’d be awesome.

> Then you cannot possibly have missed that this is the David and Bathsheba story, as another poster has pointed out.

No - it is a mangled mish-mash of **David and Bathsheba** at the beginning

_I heard that there was a secret chord, that David played …
You saw her bathing on the roof …_

and then **Sampson and Delilah**

_She tied you to her kitchen chair … cut your hair_

with the throne reference thrown in going back to David.
There is also an explicit reference to the Holy Spirit for no reason whatsoever.
Frankly, the lyrics are all over the place, the biblical imagery is used as a hook, and there is no clear direction to the song at all. It is like trying to make sense of _Stairway to Heaven_.

Oh, but I love the song and happily sing it at Open Mike night, but I don’t intend it to mean anything.

My mom reports that the pianist at their church was playing ''Hallelujah" (instrumental only) as a prelude to Mass on Sunday.
