Meanwhile in cricket, former England wicketkeeper Bruce French was once hit on the head during practice by a ball thrown by a spectator. As he was going to hospital, he was hit by a car in the car park. And after having been examined, he sat up and hit his head again on the overhead light. …His hobby outside of cricket was mountaineering. :eek: ---

I’m surprised no one beat me to this one, but I suppose you’d have to be a bitter Dodger fan to remember [Joe Beimel’s escapades](http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/articles/2006/10/07/injured_pitcher_comes_clean/) before the playoffs last year. ---

Well if we’re doing cricket too: fast bowler Terry Alderman missed more than a year of international cricket and had to reinvent himself as a medium-fast seam and swing bowler when he badly damaged his right shoulder while rugby tackling a male streaker during the Perth Test against England in 1981/82. Derek Pringle once missed a Test after hurting himself while writing a letter on the eve of the match. Don Topley damaged a hand on a spring-loaded letterbox while delivering a letter to a friend. Wasn’t there an English goalie who injured his foot on his coffee table a couple years back?
