Damn, these threads _invariably_ send me off to all of mp3 to download the forgotten favorites.

Thanks folks!

ps - I love a-ha, really enjoyed Falco (when he was alive) and also loved Brandy.
“Turning Japanese” has a meaning other than “I am becoming a Japanese person”?
Apparently it refers to the squinty face made when having a swift J. Arthur.
My imput:

**Love is Like Oxygen** by _Sweet_, says a critic, “Pretentious synth noodling meets abrupt punk riffery. Goofy chorus and portentous bridges pepper the rest of the track.”

However, I confess that I like it.
I like it too. But Sweet had other top ten hits in the US, too - Little Willie, Fox On The Run and Ballroom Blitz were all big here. I read (somewhere) a critical review once that said Sweet’s biggest impediment to success was that they seemed to be unable to pick a musical genre and stick to it.

According to the book “One Hit Wonders”, the defintion is a person (or a group) that only had one Top 40 hit in Billboard’s “Hot 100” list.
Surprisingly, by this strict definition, **Bill Cosby** , **Janis Joplin** , and **Jimi Hendix** are all one hit wonders and they are in the book. Seriously !!!

* * *

I cast my vote along with all the other posters who chose “ **Open Letter To My Teenage Son** ” as the Grand Prize Winner for the worst one hit wonder of all time.

Not to demean the memory of the late **Mike Douglas** , how about “ **the Men In My Little Girl’s Life** ” ? Had Mr Douglas not so recently passed away, I’d be campaigning very strongly for this one.

“The Tighten Up” Archie Bell and the Drells

They were from Houston, Texas, and they could dance just as good as they walked…

Two chords, one rythm pattern repeated over and over and over and…

Six months on the radio, sometimes it was on three or four stations simultaneously.

Hey now. Don’t be hatin’ on Archie Bell and the Drells. “Tighten Up” is so much better than most of the stuff mentioned here it’s not even in the same galaxy. And like several other artists mentioned here, they charted with several other singles, just none as successful as “Tighten Up”, which went to #1 in 1968. They might have done even better if Archie Bell hadn’t been in the Army, stationed in Germany, for much of the time they were having radio success.

You’re darned right that we shouldn’t be dissing Archie Bell & the Drells.
Actually, Archie was not in Germany for his military “hitch”, he was in Vietnam.

I can’t believe no one noticed that a poster named Tommy Tutone posted to this thread. Unfortunately, “Jenny” just barely doesn’t qualify because Tommy Tutone had song called “Angel Say No” hit #38. But I say it qualifies anyway, because I’ve never heard of “Angel Say No”
