Welcome one and all! It’s fun - just put whatever you want into the **2001 Time Capsule**. Eventually, the thread will die and vanish, but then at the **end** of 2001 we can exhume it to see what we stashed! Ideal stuff for the Time Capsule? Some ideas: - your 3 main **goals or ambitions** for the year ahead - relatively serious **hopes or predictions** for social or cultural trends ahead - stuff you’d **like to see happen** - **snippets, items and belongings** you think it will be cool/interesting to dig up 365 days from now I’ll start… **Goals & ambitions.** Get my new web business up and running. Date Lucy Liu. **Snippets** There’s a new class action lawsuit against the cell phone companies, so the harmful-or-not debate will get a fresh airing. I think it will fail, but the phones might get safety features up the wazoo added by paranoid manufacturers. **Predictions** The SAG strike will come and go and we won’t notice much. Here in the UK, general election and win for Blair with 107 seat majority. **Items** My car. Useless heap of junk. About time it was buried for good. Who’s next? ---

**your 3 main goals or ambitions for the year ahead** 1. Get out of debt-or at least make a serious dent in the amount of debt I have. 2. Finally stop smoking, at some point this year. This will, of course, help with the accomplishment of #1 3. Decide that **yes** I _do_ live here in this apartment, and will until May 2002 at least, so I can decorate it and get some art on the walls. 😛 **relatively serious hopes or predictions for social or cultural trends ahead** I hope the _Left Behind_ thing dies out completely. I mean, it would not bother me at all to see that series die a quick death. I’m kind of tired of seeing men in the ‘business casual’ look. **main goals or ambitions** - graduate high school. - move to mississippi. - get with gunslinger. **rel. ser. hopes/preds. for soc./cul. trends** - florida jokes will eventually die down. - cafe du monde opens shops outside of new orleans. **like to see happen** - my parents win the lottery. - one of my nascar drivers actually win something important. **snippets/items/belongings** - all the extra parts for my cavalier, as i’ll probably need them in the future but will definitely lose them if i keep them where they are ---

\*\*Goals \*\* - Send in some of my short stories to be published in magazines. - Start thinking, seriously, of a full-time job out of high school. - Like was mentioned earlier, graduate high school as the class of 2001. - Learn to keep my bitter sounding cynisism quiet around people who can’t take a joke. **Predictions** - Stanley Kubrick’s 2001 will be grounded into the ground all year. - At school they will play the “2001” theme song over the intercom on the last day of school for Seniors (they played “1999” on the last day of school for Seniors in the Class of 1999). - This year will be a better year for movies. I’m not sure for TV. \*\*Like to see happen \*\* - Not sure…I’ll have to get back on this one, too. **Items** - Cassette tapes (kids 2020–What’s a cassette tape?) - A record/record player, because they are becoming obsolete at an alarming rate. - Video tapes and VCR ---

Goals Move to England - only possible if I dont fluke this grade… Sending some of my pictures to a greetingcard company… Sending my online diary to a publisher… Lose 2 kilos that I gained in year 2 kilo. Likely to Happen Some more of my friens will start taking Prozac Items to add into the mix … my “Sound of 2000” tape, those strange armbands that I wear sometimes… and… Mini Me… my bong (Wonder if I am still a pothead next year)… ---

(A human language besides English or, more likely, a programming language besides Basic and the rudiments of C++.)[/li][/ul] **Serious Hopes and Predictions for Coming Year** : [ul] [li]Well, technology will advance, but not quite as fast as we predict now. Analog will still hold 90% of American TV markets, GPS will not be standard in cars, etc.[/li][li]Bandwidth will not improve that much. I just can’t see the average American rushing out to buy broadband Internet access quite yet. Give it until the end of the deacade.[/li][li]Radios made in the 1910s will still work to pick up most AM stations, radios made more recently will still work to pick up most FM stations. Europe is already ahead of us as far as digital broadcasting goes. Main goals/ambitions 1. Make it through both Advanced Math and Physics this next semester (and pray that they don’t screw up my class ranking!) 2. Make it to D.C. unscathed, stay there a few days, see the Holocaust Museum, meet punha and maybe a few other Dopers, and come home. 3. Take the necessary steps towards getting a book published. Hopes/Predictions for the Coming Year 1. My friends David and Alanna will probably get married and I probably won’t be able to attend the wedding. _grumble_ 2. My friend Steven will get dumped unceremoniously, but after three days, he will be over it. Snippets/Items: 1. All of those stupid Y2K buttons/stickers. 2. A few copies of bubblegum pop and rap/metal CDs for the worms to eat.
