Alleged suction created by a sinking ship

When the movie Titanic came out, one of the paperbacks rushed to print was a reprint of the senate investigation into its sinking… and one of the people testifying was the cook(?) hanging onto the rail of the stern as it went down (seen in the movie hanging beside Leonardo and Kate… Cameron did a lot of good research). the odd thing is that he survived quite a while in the cold water, possibly due to excessive intoxication.

He stated it was like riding an elevator down, nice and smooth, until he reached the water, let go, and just floated there. No suction. IIRC he found some debris and held on until he was rescued by one of the lifeboats.

Aaaaaand. . . just in case anyone is forgetting, the OP died several years ago.

That’s ok, Zombies are often raised by brand new members who put in the work to register just to tell someone on the internet they’re wrong. That’s the kind of culture we cultivate here on the Dope.

Welcome FNG.

Take note of what happens at the one minute mark of this video.

Just wanted to say that current US Navy training in case of an abandon ship command is to jump off of the ship before the ship goes under, and swim away as far as you can. The automatic lifeboats are made to pop off the rails of the ship and float to the surface with a kind of rip cord that inflates it after the ship sinks to a certain depth. The sailors then swim back to the lifeboats.

zombie or no

things letting loose and rapidly floating to the surface are likely injurious.
