But I stumbled across this site and spent half the day reading the SD archives. I’ve never had the luxury of Cecil’s article syndicated in my local cough news cough paper, but I loved the TV show. I think it was only on for a year or two. I’m sure someone here can clarify that for me.
Anyway, I spent a few more hours lurking on the boards tonight, and I think I might like to hang out here for a bit.
I figured I’d introduce myself in this forum because I imagine I’ll be hanging out here mostly, although “General Questions” is pretty appealing too.

Just jump on in and play with us. The more, the merrier. The most important rule is ‘don’t be a jerk’. Sucking up seems to work well for aha, but I wouldn’t recommend trying it on Cecil anymore. Of course, you could suck up to the rest of us and you probably wouldn’t hear any objections.
As far as advice, I’ll say make a stab at looking things up before posting a question and, (I don’t know your personality, so I don’t know if this will work for you) generally just ignore the trolls.
Welcome Gatsby. I’m always happy to see new people join the board. It makes me feel better to see people with fewer posts than me. Even if it is for a little while.
Read through some of the pit stuff. Find a nice arguement and throw in some nice pointless observations you might have made in that time. I thought it was fun anyways. <manical laughter>

Don’t venture to post in the pit unless you are a glutton for punishment. It will also muck up your standing as a “Pit Virgin”. I don’t even lurk there (man, am I prissy!)

Okay, okay, I’m joshin’ ya… seriously: Make sure you know when someone’s stating a fact or an opinion, and make sure you’re clear about that with your own posts. Otherwise, people demand a cite when there’s no cite to give.
Okay, not exactly deep, philosophical advice like “don’t be a jerk”, but it’s a nice thing to keep in mind.
