I know immediately following the new installation there was a lot of griping that the site was still slow and timeouts were occurring. So I wanted to take the temperature of the place and see how everyone has been feeling about it lately. Personally I feel like things have improved a lot. The edit feature and PM feature are helpful, and I don’t think I’ve encountered nearly as many timeouts. The only criticism I can muster is that the search feature is still very lethargic. So thanks again to \*\*Jerry \*\*for all the good work. I agree with you. The only thing I’m not happy with is the Search, which seems both slower and less accurate than before. There are a LOT of old threads it’s not pulling up, for reasons I’m not clear on. I’m getting a lot fewer time outs and interminable loading times, although there are still some. And I really like the edit feature. I even like the 5 minute window - I haven’t had as many “6 minute arrrrgh!s” as I expected to. I haven’t turned on my PM, mostly because I waste enough time on-line already, and I since my email is linked in my profile, anyone can get me through that if they need to. So yes, thank you again, Jerry, and thank you, \*\*bigbabysweets2000 \*\*for starting a thread to solicit some potentially positive feedback, as well as the negative we hear so often! ---

I really like the new server. I experience far less time outs. The PM feature is nice but the 5 minute Edit feature is **absolutely Great**! Of course I was one of the members pestering TPTB for this feature. Jim ---

So, yeah, color me pleased. I admit I wasn’t too happy with it the first two or three weeks when massive timeouts were fairly frequent but since that’s finally been resolved, apparently, I have no complaints. ---

I still think a lot of that had to do with either client-side issues, or with the pipes in between the SDMB and individual Dopers’ computers. ---

I still get occasional halts when the site just stops dead in its tracks. It usually recovers before a timeout error, but not always. It doesn’t seem to be related to anything I am doing or any specific action other than just requesting a page load. ---

I still get a hung window at times and it times out. It doesn’t do it withe frequency it used to, but it still happens every day. I have a feeling that an edit or post to the thread may be occuring at the time of the hang. ---

I log the timeouts I get. I haven’t had one since 2/27, but I have had a few long waits. ---

Server performance: I don’t notice a difference but it was never a big problem for me. Edit: Like it much more than I thought that I would. I am pleased to see that it isn’t being abused. PMs: Don’t care, don’t use it. It’s nice that others are enjoying it. ---

I have been quite happy. Rarely does the Board hiccup and not accept a post, which was a fairly common event in the past (or, at least, you didn’t get a reply after it accepted your post, which was worse, since it promoted multiple posts…). The edit feature is quite handy, and although I’m not sending many PM’s (and receiving no unsolicited ones), it’s nice to know that is there if needed. My thanks to those in charge, and those who are to real doers. 🙂 ---

It’s been a great improvement, and thanks to our Mod and Admin Overlords. My first reaction when I saw this thread title was “No way, it has NOT been 3 months, has it?” ---

I agree on the performance boost, and like the edit feature. I seem to have noticed less mod intervention in correcting post errors. Do you mods/admins think the edit function might be making your jobs a tad bit easier? ---
